I have a couple of those push drills in my workshop. They are from my grandfathers shop. None of them look like the SS but the handle of one is similar. I will try to take some pictures of mine late tonight.
As for the handle on the one in TB, it may be knurled. One of the ones I have is like that to keep it from slipping out of your hand.
The ring in the center could be a lock/direction control for the piston. The drills were reversible. I will check lots more when I get home, including some manufactures names.

I was watching "The Android Invasion" (4th Doctor and Sarah Jane) the other day and thought of this thread. I'm pretty well convinced that at least one incarnation of the screwdriver did use a kind of magnet (as someone suggested) as the "bullet" in the head.
In the episode the doctor was pulling bolts out of the floor by setting the head of the SS on them and lifting gently (with the requisite sound effects, of course). They kind of wobbled a bit, in a way that looked like lifting something with a magnet that was just barely strong enough to support the weight - a behavior I'm pretty familiar with, because as a kid I would test the limits of every magnet in sight just because I thought they were cool.
Not really an earth-shattering revelation, but I thought someone might find it interesting.

Because banning him would give him an excuse not to fill the orders he's long over due on?
He only shows up once in a while and doesn't cause any new trouble and hasn't made any new offers to take money for stuff (not that he'd be allowed to). He does seem to be making some sort of attempt to fulfill his owes. It may be just occational BS to stay on the map or he might actually be trying. Who knows?
Like I said; I'm not holding my breath but if the sonic screwdriver he's owed me for some time shows up in the mail I'll still be happy to have it in my collection.
