Hello Everyone. Borrowing this User ID to throw my twopennies worth into the ring. [/b]

OK, who are you if not aliensarchive? :)

Well, I have a good stack of books on "Thunderbirds" I'll sit down tonight and see if I can locate the name of the prop master or head prop maker. Unfortunately if this was something put together by Derrick Meddings we will be out of luck.

so was this thing only used once in "TB Are Go"? If so then it almost has to be a real item...

Also notice in the Dr.'s toolbox up there, he's got another one without the circle-y bit at the tip.

As far as I can tell from watching the Thunderbirds series that was the only time it was used. "Thunderbirds Are Go" IIRC was filmed between season 1 & 2 and I don't recall seeing it again.

To Gojira and Skyler, thanks guys, for whatever frames you can grab. Also look to see if the Thunderbirds screwdriver has the little angled cutaway on the butt end there, like the SS has...

Ended up walking out of the house this morning in a hurry without the DVD. :cry If you can do the grabs Skyler, go for it. :D

If not I'll just do them tomorrow.

Jim

I went threw three boxes of DVD's and still cant find my copy of "Thunderbirds Are Go".
I do have a divx copy, shall i pull frames from that, or would it be no good.

Heck, if it is, I'll hit the video store, and just hire a copy to pull the frames.

If anyone ever has to move interstate in a hurry, here is a piece of advice. Mark and catalog everything. Im still a year into moving, and cant find what I need, when I need.

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to the grabs, business has a way off sucking the fun out of things from time to time.

One thing I did notice while doing the grabs is that the the center grip part seems to have a clear window on it. while the tool is being used this area is shifting from yellow to red which appears to be just the color moving back and forth beneath the clear window. you can see what I mean if you look at frame 2, 4 & 5.

Woo hoo. Great work Jim. :D :thumbsup

I dont' see the "clear window" you're talking about. But it does look like the grip might be wrapped in something... aluminum tape perhaps?

- k

I noticed that too. I think we've got our confirmation about the angled cut for sure...then again it may just be a reflection of the glove.

Here's the area I'm talking about,

As the tool is being used to remove the screws you can see this area changing color from yellow to red based on the direction the tool is turning but the ring is not moving just color beneath this area. It happens fast and the tool is moving as it does so I could not get a good grab.

If you look at the above grab you catch a hint of yellow color at the top of the "window" area and red at the bottom.

Thanks Gojira61 for the great screencaps. Just to throw my wet blanket into the ring, to my eye at least, this cap seems to argue against the angled cut :(

Good point... Not sure how I missed that. I'm at work and apparently some of the images didn't load the first time on the page. I see 'em now, could have missed them but I'm sticking with "they didn't load". ;) :$

Awesome work on tracking that down.
It could still be angled above the end end cap ...check the SS pics again and notice that the angle does not go over the bottom edge.

This may be why we can't see the slot at the rear, it could be that the textured aluminum wrap was original to the piece and covered the slot and then was removed later or it was added by the Thunderbirds team to the piece to cover the slot.

Jim

"Thunderbirds" predated the screwdriver's appearance on Doctor Who, but the item may or may not be a found object.

The found object may or may not have an angled slot in it, we don't know yet.

Regards the color changing area seen in the Thunderbirds appearance, is it possible that we're seeing a reflection of some colored objects in the metal?

- k

I sort of assumed reflections.

The real question is would they have custom machined such an intricate device for a quick insert shot in one episode?

And it may just be me, but I see something dark at the top right of the endcap in that end-on photo that might be the slot...

As I said on the actual sale thread, I received it and am happy with it. I think that sucks that more people aren't telling you when they received theirs.
