Something out of Nothing - Budget Builds lets see them!

Just thought I would share this [new build here. Something out of nothing really fits this build well.

My daughter is an Ironman super fan, so (inspired by builds on this forum) I hit the dollar stores and home depot to put this together:

The humor in it was that me and my wife always bug our kid about being a surley pre-teen, so it was important to get the "...has a heart" ring on it. Hard to find lettering at the last minute, so yes, it's glittery sticker letters.

30 bucks in parts... but from her reaction you'de have though it cost a million.

Here's a shot of my $4 Mjolnir made as part of a budget Thor ensemble. It's composed of PVC pipe, Insulation foam, EVA foam and scraps from an old belt and leather jacket.

Some absolute genius in this thread, really tempted to make my son a proton pack for Halloween.
Absolutely, it's a very fun build and something you can involve your son in.

I posted this earlier in the thread but wasn't sure if you'd seen it. It's made from pink sheet insulation foam from Home Depot (about $12 for a 4'x10' sheet), scrap PVC, pipe insulation, black split loom, and black latex paint. It took about a week to do and even the thrower is made from foam and PVC.

Very Kind & Cool Story , you daughter is a lucky one to have you as her father , AWESOME Props ;)

I am impressed, it looks good. Between this prop and some prop guns I have seen I think you have convinced me that MDF is the way to go for inexpensive but durable weapons. No issue with casting, hardening or glassing. Thanks for sharing and providing the post on how you did it!

Definitely. MDF is easy to cut and pretty durable for a prop, especially a gun.

I've never worked with cardboard before (new to this), what did you use to fill the edges? Also, what kind of paint did you use to give the chip and stand that metal look?

As for filling of edges, I sometimes use Automotive Filler, 2 part expoxy, expoxy putty... basically what I feel is appropriate for the project, what I have at hand or am most comfortable using.

As for paint, I used acrylic paints in various layers, lightly sanded between each.

Hope this helps.

Nick
