Something out of Nothing - Budget Builds lets see them!

Thor's hammer made from MDF, PVC, Apoxie Sculpt and styrene sheets. All told, weighs in at about 9lbs.

Very cool bro....

This is a great thread!

I absolutely love to see the clever repurposing of everyday items and all you guys/gals putting sweat into materials that can be anything with just the right amount of elbow grease and imagination. Bravo!

The Hammer - love the finish you've got on the final version! Looks superb seeing the difference between the before and after pics.

Zodiac, very cool reactor! I love it when people add that extra touch to some props with lights and such.

Lflank - nice budget flamethrower. :D I'm a big Alien/Aliens/etc. fan, so anything from them makes me smile! My holy grail would be an M41-A, but somehow I haven't yet summoned the enthusiasm since there are so many great ones out there, I don't feel like I would be adding much... One thing I liked with doing the Farscape pistol is that they're pretty rare, so it feels that much more fun doing one (Like your flamethrower, you don't see that many of those!).

A couple of years back I set out to make a Space:1999 Eagle grab arm strictly out of things in my junk drawer. Here's the original item:

And here's my replica, before painting:

And the finished product:

Some kitbashed parts, pvc pipe, sheet sintra. It lights up and blinks.
A weekend build for probably $5 if even that.

Some very interesting things in this thread, very inspirational. Joined up so hopefully I can join in and try my hand at some things that can impress without costing a fortune because I don't have a very big budget to work with. It amazes me how people can see such fantastic objects in a box of junk or the junk drawer or the junk store. I must practice on training my eye.

I tried to make things like Arc Reactors and the like, but I never finished anything. It's always ended up ..... half finished. If that!

Not much to speak of, but I made these... gloves? gauntlets? Whatever you want to call them for a halloween costume a few years back, out of winter gloves, paintball fingerless gloves, glassworkers sleeves, wire, tape, JB Weld, and a whooooooole lotta scrap metal. I already had all of it, only thing it cost me was a couple bucks for some paint.
Sorry about the bad pictures :x

Here's hoping future projects turn out less shoddy looking...

So...I guess this could be counted as a budget build. The resin casting was not that much, I think the paint and time cost more haha - it was my first real resin project too. DSCN1686.JPGDSCN1631.JPGDSCN1651.JPG

Hope this is applicable. Made from scrap styrene, scrap foam board, clear plastic from a strawberry package, a battery-powered string of Christmas lights, a couple of business cards, and cardboard from an empty cereal box. Blue spray paint left over from a previous project.
