Solo: A Star Wars Story

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

You know... In the photos I just didn't see it, but after the segment where he's on stage talking for a while I can see a spark of Han in there. I'm changing my vote to more optimistic at this point. We got some of the best in biz working on this Star Wars stuff.... let's see what happens. :)

Thats so wildly reasonable, amazingly thoughtful, and profoundly intelligent it has no place in this thread! ;)

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

The only thing we know is that they've hired someone who looks absolutely nothing like 30-year old Han Solo to play 20-year old Han Solo. That's a fact and the major point of contention being discussed. Not quite crazed hyperbole in that regard. If you're okay with that for whatever reason, well more power to you. Maybe they're planning to employ CG trickery or even prosthetics? Now there's a WAG! Lol!

LFL is doing a lot of things right so far but I'm not so content with blind faith that I'm not going to voice concern when I have it!

Remind me again how much Robert DeNero looks like Marlon Brando?

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

It was jarring but remind me how many years are between Robert DeNiro's Corleone and Marlon Brando's? 30 years? Age can do funny things but we don't typically age much from 20-30. Certainly not enough to be unrecognizable. Even still, just because such casting has been done before doesn't mean I agree with it.

Yikes. Alden Ehrenreich and Chris Pine should form a club...

Not getting any Han Solo vibes from Alden at all.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

I'm inclined to give Disney the benefit of the doubt and assume that, looks notwithstanding, the writing and his performance will bring across what they want.

That said, I'm still...not really excited about a Young Han Solo film. I don't need to know, nor do I care about, what he did/cared/thought before he wound up in that cantina. It's mildly interesting at best to me. I'd actually prefer to not have any films about that stuff, and instead have novels. The old Brian Daley stuff was...weird, but I kind of enjoy that because it predates much of the EU circumscribing what could be included (e.g. they had the Corporate Sector Authority, and Xim the Despot).

Well, Disney did cast Depp as Tonto... :D

(...also a shout out to Jake Gyllenhal in Disney's Prince of Persia).

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

I am still not absolutely nuts about this Solo film, but the vibe I get from everyone working on these films is they REALLY REALLY care about this franchise, so they see something great in this guy and so I have to at least give that a chance.

There were things during the panel I saw that had little snippets of Ford here and there. I can't really explain it, but I think often times we forget what they are able to do with people in their makeup and hairdos, costumes and surroundings just what difference that could make. If they auditioned THAT many people, he had to have done something pretty darn good to have been cast. They had their pick of the crop and was no shortage of people. Time will tell.

I just don't know on this Solo solo film yet as a whole, but I have to just sit aside and see what happens. Disney isn't screwing around and they know what responsibility they have continuing the franchise.

Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)

He seems like a nice and likable guy so more power to him. I certainly don't dislike him at this point though I'm also certainly not picking up any Han Solo "vibe" some of you seem to be getting. I wonder what the chances are his appearance will be altered, either through prosthetics or CGI? My guess is slim to none but it is a possibility I hadn't considered until fairly recently. It'd likely be hard to do without looking goofy though.
