So this is gonna sound absolutly crazy V Full scale AT-AT

The illustration in the post above reminds me more of the RotJ Endor landing platform scene.

Something like this?

That^ is an amazing custom job!!!

IF you can afford it and actually follow through and complete it, that would be cool, there was a guy here on the RPF who was gonna build a Full-Scale Millennium Falcon, but aside from confirming the scale and detailed dimensions I never heard anything about the project since... :rolleyes

The project is still on. Real life got in the way.

If you are serious about this I have a suggestion for you...

Work out the logistics and pricing to fabricate the full-size AT-AT as a
Permenant construction. Then approach the Norweigan tourist board
And LFL to advise that it would make a brilliant landmark and a money spinner
For their national tourist industry as millions of salivating fanboys
Would be making a pilgrimage to that for sure!

Probably the only way this could become a viable reality.

I believe we can all agree that there is a vast list of hypotheticals that anyone could dream up just imagining a project this huge. That and most certainly the need to run it past Lucas some time before you even start. (unless you build it in London - where according to their High Court "props" are not art and can not be protected by license issues). Ainsworth vs Lucasfilm - BOGUS...

So let me ask this then: Hypothetically, if money was of no concern and I had the full capability of hiring professional contractors and engineers, and aquired the proper building permits, would LFL attempt to take any kind of legal action for NOT getting permission from them first?

In the end, it's still technically a replica. Big or small

as long as it was built on private land, and you collected ZERO profit from it, I dont see what they could do...

I would find out who made the MGM ones. See if they made more? Find out approximate cost. Find out what it's constructed of, maybe build photos, blueprints? was it a contractor? or one of MGMs teams? Get small scale model to show people. Probably best to try with Paul Allen ;) Maybe Disney has plans for another one at their parks? Paris, Hong Kong some time in the future?

The MGM one, from what I remember, they have had several over the years. Along time ago, the head "fired" and made noise, and I think even the visor was lit up as well..

The thing with the MGM one is that it's terribly undersized, proportions are way off (designed to "look" farther away using that old disney construction trick) and on the other side, it's exposed framework to hold lights and stuff.

Yea, the group your thinking of did a full size AT-ST, I believe the German Garrisson built a scaled down AT-AT.
It's an group from UK who dit the full sized AT-ST, but it's my Garrison (Belgian Garrison) who did a scaled AT-AT (first pic), next to a few other life-sized props
The German Garrisson however did make an 2-person AT-AT costume (second pic, far right)

I think the tourist board idea is the right way to progress... perhaps have one at the hotel in Finse where they filmed. If it ever gets greenlighted count me on board.

It did get me thinking about the falcon too. If you could make a falcon 'house' it would negate the cost of building it seeing as you'd live there. How cool would it be to open your landing ramp to collect the milk bottle in the morning? Excellent.

Build a crashed one. That'd mean you could build it lower to the ground, worry a bit less about accuracy, save a few bucks on parts for the bottom, and people could actually GO in it.

oh my......It's the real version of the US water downed Robotech etc.

Gundam has nothing to do with Robotech except that they are both anime from Japan and both have giant robots. Gundam pre-dates Robotech/Macross by at least a good 10 years and started the craze/trend for "realistic" robots in anime where they mostly just a machine and not some kind of mechanical super hero or designed with all sorts of fantastical weapons that pop out of nowhere; the focus was more on the people who piloted them than they were on the robots themselves.

If you live near a lake it would make an excellent boat dock! You could have most of the legs in the water. It would look cool, like as if it was crawling out of the lake.

But I agree with the others, a crashed one would be much easier. That being said, if you have the funding I would be happy to help out!

It'd be easier to build if it's done kneeling down.
Building it on four legs at full height will prob'ly require cranes.

This would not cost hundreds of thousands....

This would cost lots o millions to be done "right".

We talking accurate? Would be pointless if not.

Metal?

How do you get up to it?

You gonna build a 300 million dollar centuri moon base with sat dish to park it next to?

Hey, it would be awesome. But lets be realistic here.

This is NOT going to happen.

Chris Lee has been working on a 1:1 falcon for God knows how long? THAT is still hard to concieve.

This?

This is next to impossible unless your dad is Bill Gates. If so... can I come play? :lol

It'd be cheaper to build a Sail Barge in Buttercup Valley.

But the road rats that infest that place would trash it.

What a fun idea. After seeing the life size "props" at CV, many of us were saying the same things.
They also had the scaled AT AT on display and it was very nice.
I have been rooting for Chris the whole time for his Falcon and really hope he gets that done.
This would probably be best done adjacent to a building that it could be "peeking" around the corner of or something and then, where it touches, make the ingress/egress point.
That would also help with the wind factor and allow for "passengers."
Oldken is probably right though, it's not likely to happen.

Fun to ponder though!
