This sounds incredibly insane and overwhelmingly expensive, but one of my dreams is to one day see an actual to scale AT-AT.

I see that a japanese company got together and built a full size Gundam, so I gather it would be somewhat of a realistic possibilty given that money was not a hinderence. I asssume you'd need alot of building permits and whatnot as well..

What do you all think? I know I'm a sandwich short of a picnic, but I think it'd be pretty awesome

Awesome? Hell yes! But also very, very time consuming and I'm sure costly, even if you did use cheaper parts and pieces

But go for it!!! I think it'd be amazing :)

I think the cheapest thing about it would be the planning and preparation. Deciding on the actual height and measurements and wether or not what can be done for complete accuracy.

Theres a pretty large one (or was) at MGM studios. Not completely full size I dont think. I cant even imagine what just one foot would cost... I think it would only become a reality if it was built as a building, in the shape of an AT AT.

You would certainly have to purchase land to build it on too.
Unless you can get that thing to walk, it needs a home - how bout Lucas' back yard?:lol

Ooo, I have a picture from when I was a little kid standing next to that AT-AT!

Yep, the AT-AT at Disney's Hollywood Studios is indeed a big one. It looks full-size to me, but then again, I'm no expert. It's still there, by the way.

Yea, I grew up going to MGM/hollywood studios and I really like the AT-AT they have, but that only just under half the actual size. It has alot of proportional issues as well, but then again, it's just for display.

It appear's that there has been alot of debate on the true scale. Star wars.com says it's 15 meters, where the suggested real hieght is either 20 or 22 meters. If I were to ever do it, I'd probably make it either 21 or 22 meters.

The lifesize gundam was 18 meters (59 feet), so the AT-AT would be taller, between 65.6ft and 72.2ft.

My biggest reference for scale, however, would be the cockpit/head and the neck. The reason being is that in the film, they show 4 people in the cockpit; 2 drivers, Veer's, and a snow commander, 2 of which, both standing fully erect inside. This suggests that the neck tube should at least be about 6ft (based on the fact that the average person is about 5'7" +-)in the center as to allow someone to travel through between the main body and the head. However, that is all subjective..

I remember hearing about a garrison somewhere in Europe (or at least I think it was in Europe, it wasn't a US garrison is all I know) who put together a full size one...or maybe it was an AT ST, I think that might have been it. :wacko Lol sorry that's totally vague, I definitely don't think that a full size ATAT has been done before and would look amazing! Gonna be made in time for CV right? :lol

Yea, the group your thinking of did a full size AT-ST, I believe the German Garrisson built a scaled down AT-AT.

Just put this together, using that space ship scale site:

The at-at in this is 20 meters (65.6ft tall)

Have it next to an at-st at 8.6 meters, Tardis, an F-14, a bettle and some random people

It'd be easier to build if it's done kneeling down.
Building it on four legs at full height will prob'ly require cranes.

Can you imagine if it could be made to WALK? *insert fanboy giddy fit here*

Ok....I need a cigarette :lol

That would be cool too! Build one like it had been brought down and has been sitting there ever since...

Could you not scale it based on luke going up the rope to toss a (really good) grenade it it

I dont think its so crazy, there is a member here who is building a full scale, fully finished Falcon.

I was lucky enough to see the full size Gundam in person and that thing was wayyy huge - but i will say the fact that is had some movement to it is what made it cool. It gets old looking at a statue - maybe not with the AT AT seeing how it would dwarf the Gandam. You should at least make some sort of interior - then again, I'd be pretty scared up in that thing with the images already in my head of how they fall over.
