So technically, whos saber is it?

why would the saber call to her if she isnt a Skywalker?

They've shown in Rebels as well that untrained Force-sensitive individuals are drawn to objects like lightsabers and holocrons - Ezra finds Kanan's lightsaber in a hidden compartment of their ship in the first episode. So Rey doesn't need familial relation for the Force to guide her to the Skywalker lightsaber either :)

I don't know that that is evidence-- and don't get me wrong I LOVE Rebels. But the movies are made for a mass audience. As much as they'd want people to watch cartoons, buy books, read comics and play video games with Star Wars branded all over them-- they can't count on it.

TFA has all the evidence it needs to make some pretty educated guesses I think. People tend to forget how simple and straight-forward Star Wars narrative is. It's a storybook in motion. It's as morally clear as a western from the 50s.

To that, as far as I am concerned Rey's lineage is 90% certain to me as being a Skywalker. 5% Kenobi. 5% rando.

I will say, that I think Arndt, Abrams, and Kasdan fully intended her to be a Skywalker. There's always the chance that the brain trust for E8 decided to do something else.

The Skywalker lightsaber is a sort of totem representing the more civilized age of the Jedis, the old Republic, and bridging the generations, etc. I also vote that it is Anakin's. Even though he made a bad career choice for awhile there, Anakin wasn't dead no matter what Kenobi says.

I'm more of a mind that Rey is Luke's offspring. TFA isn't all that original, so the Skywalker child strong with the Force and the potential savior hidden from the bad guys is familiar ground. I guess we'll find out.

Hey _Lee_, Shmi Skywalker's kid....GREAT IDEA! Though I don't know if there's ever been a story written about her having a second baby.

Personally I really want Rey to be Luke's daughter. That way we can get Mara Jade into the movies at somepoint. Or, who knows what else Luke and Leia did besides kiss in front of Han Solo?!?!?!?! Seriously though, it's the "Rey, I AM YOUR FATHER!" that I'm looking forward to in Episode VIII. Maybe Luke will mentally snap from having that lightsaber pointed at him and whip out his ROTJ saber and lop off Rey's outstretched hand. The circle is complete.

Rey as a Kenobi has merit too though. British accent, Kenobi-esque attire, hermit lifestyle. I really like what Ben Ostrower says about it...

As far as Canon goes, Disney doesn't give a $#!T about it. In my book, "Ben" is either a Kenobi or a Skywalker, NOT a Solo.

There's also the chance that since Disney made Ben a Solo, that they'll make Rey (Jaina Solo) be a Solo too as Kylo Ren's twin sister. And thus we have a defunct way of getting the Solo twins.

Back to Shmi Skywalker having a second baby, if she did, and it was Anakin's twin sister that had to be... sold off to pay the bills or something, that would set precedent for Luke & Leia and Ben & Rey as the Skywalker Family Twins Curse.

It's fun to speculate who's going to be who! Especially if Padme didn't die after all and lived out the rest of her life as a hermit (HINT! HINT!).... Obi-wan + Padme = Rey's mother or father, giving way to Obi-Wan being Rey's grandfather, who had the Anakin Skywalker lightsaber in his possession for 19 years = the reason it calls to Padme. That lightsaber is done with crazy, Dark-Side-tempted Skywalkers!!!

5% rando .... Is that Rando Perhapsian? Lando Calrissian's half brother?

Padme having survived & run off to live with Obi-Wan . . . that is one of the most interesting (and workable) fan theories I've heard in a long time.

She didn't need to have survived all the way to the OT for that matter. If she just survived a few more years after ROTS, that would be enough to give her more backstory with Obi-Wan and birth more offspring.

There would need to be some pretty good excuses for why Padme & offspring were nowhere in the OT though.

Thank you very much!

How about... The second most evil Sith in the galaxy, who's bat$#!T crazy for you and your "death" is the spark that turned him to the Dark Side, would hunt you down and murder or turn your offspring to the Dark Side if he ever got even a whiff from the planet that's the furthest from the bright spot in the center of the universe of the fact that you weren't actually dead. And further, that you've shacked up with his former teacher who happens to be the guy that chopped his arms and legs off and left him to burn to death in the lava flows of an exploding planet and strode off with his lightsaber. Would that be a good enough excuse to stay in ultimate hermit mode?

I mean, come on, Obi-Wan Kenobi is right there on Tatooine, "guarding" Luke, but never once trains him in the Force for fear of alerting anyone to either of their presences? He should have strode right over to Owen Lars (who Obi-Wan chose to leave Luke with), Force bent his mind to allowing Luke to train as a Jedi, and had Luke 100% ready for said bat$#!T crazy second most evil Sith in the galaxy. Right?

But he didn't. He chose to stay in ultimate seclusion with Padme and their children for fear of alerting anyone to the presence of one of the last Jedi Knights. Who's to say that in Obi-Wan's basement there wasn't one kick@$$ Jedi Padawan Training Facility? What else did Obi-Wan have hidden in the chest that held Anakin Skywalker's lightaber?

Amongst other dictates, the Jedi Code forbade Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters from taking on more than one Padawan at a given time; and forbade Jedi from forming attachments, such as marriage, and other specific, individual bonds, such as romantic love and family.

This is the one thing that I think most people ignore.

I'm hoping Rey is unrelated to any of the previously shown Jedi. She doesn't need to be related to any of them. If anything, her circumstances of being marooned and waiting on Jakku ring oddly true to her father being the same guy as Starlord's father from GotG...although she does look like if Portmann (Padme), young Fisher (Leia), and Knightley (Padme's security double) had a tryst and then a love child. Think about that one for a minute...not the love child part, but the tryst part. Now that is one anthology movie that would excede the multiple views of the trilogy films! Of course, Leia would need to be recast like Han in the Solo movie.

but Obi didn't consider himself a Jedi knight anymore... As he said "I was ONCE a Jedi knight, the same as your father"... Obi is open for business!

There is no way she is a Solo. Both Han and Leia give zero indication they had twins.

Could be Leia got pregnant right before Han left, Han didn't know, then Leia had Rey and stashed her away on another planet so Kylo wouldn't know about her. Leia doesn't really see Rey until towards the end and they do share that hug that seems like there was more going on than Leia let on.

JJ said that that hug was the first time Rey and Leia ever met.

"My thinking at the time was that Chewbacca, despite the pain he was feeling, was focused on trying to save Finn and getting him taken care of,” Abrams told Slashfilm. “So I tried to have Chewbacca go off with him and focus on Rey, and then have Rey find Leia and Leia find Rey. The idea being that both of them being strong with the Force and never having met, would know about each other — that Leia would have been told about her beyond what we saw onscreen and Rey of course would have learned about Leia. And that reunion would be a meeting and a reunion all in one, and a sort of commiseration of their mutual loss."

And Daisy said that Rey isn't Han's daughter.

In my opinion TFA is replete with evidence for Rey being Luke's daughter. I'd say 95% Rey Skywalker and 5% Rey Random, but having her be a Skywalker would fit with Kathleen Kennedy's comments.

"The Saga films focus on the Skywalker family saga,” she explains. “The stories follow a linear narrative that connects to the previous six films. The Force Awakens follows Return of the Jedi and continues that generational story."

In my head I know that this makes so much sense for the general anthology, I just have a hard time getting to a place right now to embrace it.

On the saber front - it's Anakin's, but as it changes hands it transcends a single owner and is a symbol for these characters as they learn about the force. Anakin lost it shortly after his turn to the dark side, Luke lost it when he was wrestling with his anger, and now it's with Rey as she tries to learn about her place in the galaxy. The saber doesn't tend to stay with those who are in conflict between the dark side and the light side.

I feel that were in for the Awakening of the Force in Lukes Daughter....That is why he failed with the Jedi school or training that he was conducting and why he left....feeling as he failed....Looking for Enlightenment by finding the True way of the Force so to speak.....Remember the Force is Strong in Our Family!......Just my 2 Cents?.....And P.S......That's why the Saber Called out to Rey.....
