Smooth On Feather Lite Urethane Resin...anyone Tried It?

Hey y'all, as I look towards casting my bio I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Smooth On's Feather Lite Urethane Resin? If so how hard or strong is it? Thoughts on pro's/con's for making a bio out of it? I searched on 'Feather Lite' and got just one hit where it was recommended to be used for some dread rings but that was all I could find. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I just took a look at it, it's only a 58D hardness...not really enough. I tried the Roto, which is 65D, and that would warp slightly under its own weight. Not massively, but enough that I couldn't recommend it. If you really wanted a superlight bio, you could slush cast in the featherlite, and back it with the free form air epoxy compound...that is something like 85D hardness.

Thanks Paul, I had not even considered warpage or using a combination of materials as a possible option. I think that since I have not yet even tried to cast it in something more standard I will try that first to see just how heavy it turns out and then look to lighter options in case it turns out heavier than I would like it to be. Because of the way I plan to do this (two piece mold) I am anticipating a heavier bio than a one piece mold but I am also planning to make my mold such that I could slush cast from the front part thus giving me the option of a potentially lighter bio than the two piece mold would create. Do you use the Smooth On products or another brand? I have not heard of Roto before. I was looking at the Smooth-Cast 320, 321 or possibly ONYX products...any thoughts on them? How much does cure time play into the quality of the casting? Is a slower cure product better for two part molds or does it matter? Lots of questions I know but I am trying to learn as this is one area where I believe you just can't cut too many corners without some pretty dire consequences. Advice from those like yourself who are experienced at this is a good thing and could save me big $$$ down the road so I figure it cannot hurt to ask. My searches here on the Lair turn up so much information on this subject that I am having a tough time determining which way to go...

Thanks again,

Steve

Sorry for the Roto question Paul, after further research I now understand what it means. You are talking about Smooth-Cast 65D. From what I could tell it seems pretty hard...about how thick was the piece that you say warping on?
