Slothfurnace's ROTJ Luke saber - Crystal chamber, detachable blade

Oh my God. I want this thing so bad. It's unbelievable. This trumps any other Luke replica I've ever seen.

Yea, that's what I was thinking while I finished carving the chamber for the crystal of my cheep-o Starkiller Saber.

:D

Love your work Slothfurnace

WOW.
You have just built the holy Grail of lightsaber replicas.

I suggest that you gear up for a production run, start an official interest thread, and place my name at the top of the list. Seriously.

I'd like to know how the blade attaches. How secure is it? Does it fit over the emitter "nipple" or does that come off?

Ah, to answer your question, the emitter sections detach, one has a blade, one does not.

Holy crap! What a brilliant solution! I love it!
Do you use a ForceFX sound chip & speaker?

Seriously, if you decide to do more of these, please put me on the interest list!

Very cool, what kind of blade are you using?

I am using a TCSS polycarbonate blade tube, a 90 or so LED string blade I soldered up and a Hasbro Force FX Foam diffuser tube.

Yeah, I am using a Hasbro Yoday board and a TCSS premium speaker.

As far as the interest list, I don't want to get to ahead of myself, these things take months to make one... so.. we'll see.

But, I just want to thank everyone who has supported me so far on this project. Today has been crazy, as I have found out that Hack A Day, MAKE magazine's blog and now Gizmodo has featured this saber.

Lightsaber boasts detachable blade and crystal chamber - Hack a Day

This Is Probably the Best DIY Lightsaber Ever

You really did a good job bout the detachable blade, this way you have the perfect static prop and blade saber too.
Would be a good idea to make a run.
You already have the construction process,I think the first is the most difficult to build.
About turning it's possible to make small serials, like Russrep does.

Hi Brad,

Just before you start turning out another batch of these wonderful ROTJ sabers from your Lathe you might reconsider making the rings and inbetween space a tiny bit more screen accurate. They are NOT of the same size as you can see in this badly scanned :$ and thus warped picture here :

and on this ROTJ replica (originally from Anakin Starkiller and currently in my possesion) you can see clearly that the angle in between the rings is off and not centered :

By the way Brad, how did you make/obtain those copper parts for the controlbox? Nevermind I figured it out already :)

Yeah but work of this craftsmanship is worth the wait! If I only had one "Force FX" styled Lightsaber, this would be it!

This is fantastic work! I'm truly amazed and inspired. This is the second step-by-step of yours that I've read and am again so impressed that I'm off to my workbench after I post this. Thanks for sharing, Slothfurnace!

Awesome work. I think I saw your Darth Vader saber a while back before I joined. I saved those images and these as well. Really great. I only wish this was the V2.
