I'm actually surprised at the response to this. . .should I start thinking about doing a run?

Re: "SILENCE!!! I KEEL YOU!! Achmed sculpt and buildup

:lol No problem!! We had a great day at work today, lots of good mojo today, lots of sales (bad economy what-now?), so I'm pretty charged up to get home and keep the energy going.

I'll also start crunching some numbers on a run of heads. Should be pretty cheap.

do ya think you can cast the body too?
If this converts into an interest thread in the Junkyard...I am interested in price, kit form available, etc...

It's great work, no doubt, but this is exactly the thing I mentioned in my thread on recasting. Making one for yourself is fine, but doing a run? (Although, if you're not a ventrilloquist, why would you need one, and if you are one, why not make your own design?)

I think this crosses the line. This goes well beyond creating an unlicensed prop replica. Achmed TDT is a character exclusive to Jeff Dunham, and I think it should stay that way (unless he decides otherwise). Are you going to send him his "cut" for the run? Would you do a run of Robby the Robot puppets?

Sometimes I think the world's economy collapsing might be a good thing. Years of propserity, Wal mart, and Ebay have given some people the idea that if they want something, it's their god given right to have it (regardless of need or other's rights).

Like I said, the progress looks great, but I think a run would fall somewhere between ill-advised and just plain wrong. But you're gonna do what you're gonna do, so good luck with that.

Re: "SILENCE!!! I KEEL YOU!! Achmed sculpt and buildup

uhh... what?
[sarcasm]
yea... this is totally different than any star wars replicas of YODA or 3PO or VADER or R2D2, or EWOKS or lightsabers, or phasers, or any other little prop we make around here.
[/sarcasm]

would we make a robby the robot puppet? no... because robby wasnt a puppet... would we make a full scale replica robby? we have... and will again.

Re: "SILENCE!!! I KEEL YOU!! Achmed sculpt and buildup

If I could offer some constructive criticism....

After watching some Achmed clips, I think the hollows on the sides of the head need to be deeper, also I think there is some detail missing from the area behind the cheekbones.

This is really cool!

I'm a HUGE fan of Achmed:) In fact, his "Jingle bombs" inspired me to make my own version about one of my collegues, who's a real pain in the behind when he's pushing for a quote for our customers, so the refrain is "where's my quote" instead of "jingle bombs". Of course the "song" ends with "I kill you":lol We've had a few good minutes singing it at the office, but of course it would be even more fun, if we could sing it together with a full scale puppet!

Regards,

Marc

Wow! What a response to this!! I look away for a few days and look what happens!! SWEETTT!

Here's the final sculpt before heading into silicone tonight. The jaw, and eyebrows are seperate, and I'll be casting Christmas ornaments for the eyes to get them nice and smooth(just like the original!!).

Mechamacanic was right on target, but since the sculpt was only halfway there, he and I were on the same page over the weekend, cosmically speaking.

All of Achmed's cracks and crags are in place, and his eyebrows are the proper shape. His cheekbones are a bit deeper, and the detail a bit sharper.

In truth, the black-on-white paint will create alot of the negative space needed to pull of the correct look. This will also come in handy on his lower jaw.

I don't have it pictured, but his jaw is actually a seperate piece, ready for casting later tonight. I hope you guys like how nice and tight it came out.

As for a run, I'm going to do one, but just of the head. . . .skeletons are a pain to cast, and would jump the cost considerably. We'll go over that later this week, but there WILL be a run of heads, with sepearate pieces.
