Limited Run Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLOSED)

Re: Sign up thread for NEW Luke V2 light saber run. Spring 2018 edition (SIGN UP CLO

Has anyone tried to cannibalize a first run and mate the rod and bearing into this one? My first run is sitting unloved at the moment. Before I give it a shot I want to know if anyone has tried this hybrid job.

Tom is that the rod from the first run? Or did you find that at a hardware store?

this is a new rod. I just went to Metal Supermarkets here and asked for 2 pieces of correct diameter steel (this is stainless steel) and they cut them to 4 Inches in length. 5 would give you more wiggle room, my collar is roughly a half inch from the end.

Nice Tom!! I’m going to go and try and find something at my local hardware stores

I love stainless!

Right before pressing the post button, it hit me. We just got a “tractor supply” here in town

The have a really big steel section, I am going to ride up the street tomorrow (as long as it’s not raining) and see if they have something close

Excellent thinking buddy!

thanks! Just get 5/16 round bar I think. Whatever the diameter of the nipple is...

And a dremel. round cutting bit for the shaft collar and some cutting discs for the nipple groove/ring

Hey @thd9791 ! What's the Nipple Groove Ring for?

Brandon mentioned the groove all the way around the rod way back in the V2 thread I'm pretty sure.

Like the Pommel's trench, it's a place for the two nipple set screws to stick in - prevents them from slipping up or down if some force is applied. Cutting around the whole rod made it easier to install, and allows for any orientation - just like the pommel's rotation thingy

Here is what I did to lessen the wobble of the emitter

drill stop/shaft collar and a steel rod, 4”

cut a nub/bit for the drill stop set screw to sit in

cut a ring around the nipple end so it doesn’t matter what position i drop it in

break open the saber, put the collar on and drop it down. Measure and move the collar forward or backward to line it up. Make sure the emitter is not dangling at its most extended state, and you’ll get an accurate reading!

now this is how far it can be extended. Still rotates and rattles...I still have the steel threaded heat sink in there too

I’m not even quite sure what you did. You lost me a bit. I’m just going to sand down the blade holder/majorly threaded part that the heat sink goes into. I figure if I sand down from the threaded end about .5mm it’ll be perf I think on the wobble. I think I could even put a washer in there.... [emoji848]

EDIT: Nope! Washer just makes it so the emitter doesn't fit. Definitely have to sand it, but not even by .5 mm.... I'd say like .25 as it made it kind of a snug fit, but not that spinny,

Doesnt your bearing end wobbly around inside because its smaller than the cavity in the body? I ended up having to put a rubber O-ring around mine to tighten it up and keep it center. I also put a rubber o-ring around the steel cone inside the emitter to eliminate more wobble.

Btw, love your buddy's e11 ...

Really thinking about doing one after the v2 :)

I’ll show a build log once it’s done, it’s been real fun

Physical damage starts tonight on the V2, chemical aging Saturday. If it Saturday night, Sunday morning I should have the aging tutorial up. Then once I get the stencils I’ll do a right up with that and paint & dusting

I love everything about this V2!!

surprisingly no, I only have a shaft collar and no bearing. Maybe I have it set a hairline beneath being tight against the inside?

Hey Just curious if anyone has thought of a clever way to replicate this groove. The nipple (stop giggling Danny) and the plate seem to be separate pieces to me
I thought about putting the plate in my drill, spinning it and carving a groove in it but that seems dangerous and likely that I'll end up destroying it.

EDIT: OMG DAN, YOU'RE A GENIUS!
It's already there!!! What the hell! I swear I looked at it the other day and didn't even see it. It's very shallow (will stand out a lot more when the paint gets in there) but it's there!

My bad guys, I completely missed it!

I just got Slothfurnace's vintage finish card for mine, it is super nice. Now I just need one of Roy's levers...
