Sideshow 1/4 Vader. New Pic.

I am not sure that the photos are doing it justice. But just incase I did forward this link to some contacts at SS...

I had quite a bit of correspondence with Greg Mowry and offered to send him numerous photos and measurements of my accurate ANH parts but he never took up the offer. I wish the sculptors would take a bit more time to research the differences between each movie version. They've only got to put the ANH DVD into a player to see what they need to fix to make this a more accurate representation of what is seen on screen. It appears to be a real mix of all the different versions of the costume at the moment. The helmet is by far the worst though - they really missed the mark on the proportions / details of it. I agree that someone here should sculpt a more accurate replacement. I'll bet there's a few guys who could get it a lot better - especially if provided with key measurements to help get the proportions correct. :(

I too hope the this is just a case where the photos aren't doing the actual product justice. As far as any changes being made by SS, I think it's too late for that now. The statue is supposed to ship sometime in January so that basically means they're already done. I just hope that when I get mine and open up the box I don't feel like

Yup, I already got my notice that they are all en-route to the warehouse and will be shipping early January. They have no intentions of changing it now.

Same here. This can't come fast enough. :D

I think you need to keep in mind that old ben was in the works when this pose was decided on. It is clearly meant to be displayed as a duel set from anh. If you look at the 2 that way, vader's pose is correct and well thought out. As for the helmet i dont know. I think it looks ok, am no vader 'expert'. Hopefully the shipped product will be dead on

Anyone knows if the head of the SS Vader is removable if someone were to sculpt and produce a replacement?

Personally, there's no way I'd spend $350 on this statue and then mess around with trying to put a replacement head on it, but that's just me. :unsure

It looks almost like a Bat helmet.

I'm in love with that Marmit Vader...too bad it's not available at a price I could afford at least... :( ....the only 12" figure I've taken seriously...

:cheers,

You know, regardless if you guys think it is off, if you have a chance to get one, it may be worth doing anyway. The secondary market on stuff like this is pretty good and there will no doubt be plenty of people out there that like it just fine.

Chris,

That is a very sad story to hear. I can't understand why they would publisize the project as a top quality ANH Vader, I can understand they didn't have a clue about different Vader helmets, but other thing is "refuse" the help form someone who is an expert in that matter, that can provide excellent refence material and measures and still pretend they are doing whatever possible to get it right (the "corrected" scuplts). God if you have the opportunity to do it, make it RIGHT.

One particular theory of mine, as I cannot believe the sculpt and Art department of SS are neither blind, lazy or uncapable to research, is that the reference material was provided to them by LF, and as they are contractually forced to get approvals from them to have the "go" on the final product, LF made them do it this bastardized ROTS version., you know to keep continuity. As we know the LF people aren't worried about accuracy or research, just the cool looking aspect. Time will tell when they realease more figures (Boba, stormtrooper...)

Regards and happy holidays

Do we know who actually has the marmit vader? If it were up for sale we could pool our resources and duplicate parts etc between ourselves?

Just an idea?

Paul,
I would definitely be willing to pool money to make that happen. I've wanted one of these Marmit Vaders from the beginning.

Dave :)

Wow...just wow....

The Marmit Vader is right on the money, the sculptor in Japan did his homework and it shows.

I like Sideshow as a company, they have given the collectors products that we may not have had otherwise but I find the sculpt quality to be hit and miss from sculptor to sculptor with sometimes the most obvious details being missed.

The fact that Chris offered all the information to get it right and didn’t get the time of day from them is sad. It sounds like the classic “I’m the artist and your not” attitude and trust me, I see it a lot being an artist myself and having worked in the toy industry.

Lucas Licensing can also be hit and miss depending on the subject matter. I had a friend that worked at Hasbro and sometime they would request a re-sculpt on an item and sometimes they would accept and sign-off on the first round of a prototype even if it were not 100% accurate.

For some reason, that ESB Marmit Vader doesn't look nearly as good as the ANH one to me. Does anyone else think it's a little "off"?
