Show your custom Lightsabers!

Was going through some old boxes and found this - this very first "lightsaber hilt" I made as a little kid (like, 5 years old or so).

I think it's just some PVC with coloured tape and Legos as switches, but there's something really nostalgic about seeing it again after so long. Maybe someday I'll try and remake it in metal just to see if I can have that back again.

I’ve been wanting to post these for a while. I used to be big into sabers, but then I got burned out and sold most of my collection. It’s been at least 15 years, and I thought I was done. But this past October, after binge-watching Ahsoka for the umpteenth time, I suddenly felt a need to start designing and building again, and buying some really good replicas. I needed a new “therapy” , after getting burned out on Legos and such…….

Most of these are machined from solid aluminum. I’m not a big fan of electronics. Especially when accuracy is compromised for gimmicks. And especially when it’s too easy to accidentally change the sounds or colors on the damn things…… I mean, really, why don’t they just have one color? Or an option to lock them in. I do have several Baselit, and one Pixel, but that’s only because the price made sense, versus an empty hilt.

My “old school” customs. Turns out most of my older customs were crap. I look at old pictures, and I can’t believe that was my collection. There are a few I wish I still had, but for the most part, I’m glad I got rid of them.

These are the only ones I kept-

My new collection.
The Inquisitor sabers are just 3D printed, which I’m not a fan of. I’m a machinist- I like metal. But I’m not paying what I paid for these……for one saber. Not accurate, but as far as painted decorations go, these look just fine. And they were fun to build. Still have a couple more on the way…...

what an amazing collection... congratulations

I just did this one today. Except for the emitter shrouds and three brass splines, it’s all one piece. All the major black is aluminum black, except for the weathering in the grooves. Comparison with my Maul, 3D printed Marrok, and my other custom double (which is 75% modified Saberforge parts, anyway). Each one of these was meant to be shorter than Maul’s, but as usual, I end up with something the same damn size. Lol

It’s just hard to get the right design geometry into something shorter. You lose something:/

I’m taking the splines back to work tomorrow to add minor details- kind of like a “blood groove”.

I’ve never done this before….. I like this design so much, I had to have a single version of it.

So I made this one today. I messed up and made the charging ports bigger than the other saber, but otherwise, it came out perfect. I’m not a CNC machinist anymore. I have a nice laid-back job with two manual lathes, and two Bridgeports. So all of this tedious crap is done manually…..lol

For some reason, I seem to be into double sabers, lately. This one is inspired by both Revan, and a custom Inquisitor render I found. Sorry, I don’t know who the artist is- I forgot where I found it. The Covertec activation button was inspired by Nahdar Vebb’s lightsaber.

Edit: The Inquisitor render is by “Racecarsoup” on Reddit.

Not exactly the type of custom saber this thread is meant to feature, but I just came across this old image from 2016. It was done on my old SLA 3D Printer and modified by me for ease of printing at this tiny scale (I forget who made the original model) and then painted. I also crudely fashioned a miniscule D-ring out of wire.

saber hand.jpg
It was made to hang on the belt of a custom 1/6 scale Obi Wan I made. Figured you guys might get a kick out of it.

I have a couple of (standard) customs in the works I'm quite excited about, which I'll be posting in the coming weeks.

Xeno3 core modified and installed, wire extensions soldered, tested and success! :)

simple paint weathering on some off-the-shelf LGT and TXQ sabers..

IMG_1564.JPG

and my prized TXQ OWK Ep4, also paint weathered but including buffing, dremel work, etc. will be replacing inaccurate D-ring and bubble strip. still a work in progress but all that's left is the cotter pins and clear coat, plus aforementioned replacement bits. more pics to come upon completion.
