First - I'd like to publicly thank "Redeye" for making this transaction possible. He managed to get me a lifesized r2d2 from Alberta, Canada all the way to New York City. I had no idea that it would even be possible getting something so large shipped over to me -especially since it was international. The transaction, talking, negotiating and even shipping was all done within 2 weeks!! It was a transactional dream come true.
I have to be honest with everyone I had no idea that r2 was so large. Seeing him on the screen - and owning multiple smaller versions of R2 I guess I never realized that masswise- r2 is actually bigger than me!
Redeye is a guy who is extremely into Star Wars and you know that he cares for all of his props as if they're "family." The care and consideration that he showed me - and is still showing me - in helping me figure out this beast of a prop is incredible. (This is probably the most electronically technical prop that I own, plus as many of you know the "r2 world" is very very hard to get started in.. and I feel like, with redeye's help I got a major bump in the right direction)
I've been scouring the net for years looking for r2's.. but usually all I find are aluminum octagon ports- coin slots - shoulder hubs etc... but in my searches I've never found some major components like the frame. I couldn't bring myself to buy all these random parts without knowing if I'd ever get a decent frame for r2 or anything - and I"m sure many of you feel the same way here. After receiving r2 I understand now why all the parts are so expensive -R2, again, is huge!. I can imagine how heavy and solid such things as aluminum legs are - and now I understand and can justify the prices that such pieces command.
Either way, he definitely gets an A++++ in my book. I hope I can provide r2 with a great home as I know Redeye had difficulties parting with such a beloved prop.
Thank you Redeye - please stay in touch brother!
here's a great video of Redeye - and his amazing star wars collection!!
