Sherlock Coat opinions/info?

Hey, thanks for the answer. Yes, I already searched greatcoats; unfortunately most of them were just a wee bit too military looking for me. I don't want to walk down the street looking like Hitler.
Anyhow, I have now found a splendid vintage coat made of heavy Scottish wool woven in the Dogtooth tweed pattern that seems to be of really good quality. (Not a cheap price either, especially for a used one.) Might send some pictures of it if anyone is interested. Real Sherlock fans probably won't care for it too much, since it's just too different from Cumberbatch's coat, but I really liked the pictures and it has the pleated rear vent!

Hello guys! Newbie here :p Found this site when tried to find good reference pictures of the coat and I've been lurking here ever since.
This thread has been really helpful. So, I made my own version of the coat at school couple months ago. Sorry about the photo quality, also two buttons are missing because I bought only six haha. The fabric that I used is quite different from the real one, couldn't find it from my local fabric store and had no time to buy it online.

Would you mind posting a link to where you got the fabric? I'm in need of black herringbone wool for a coat I'm making and haven't found all the many options so far. The coat looks beautiful, by the way.

That is an excellent looking coat, and that fabric works really well for it.

If you need any buttons, send me a PM.

I would but I got the fabric from my school, so I have no idea where it's from :( It might be a Finnish brand called "Turo Tailor", not sure if they have it anymore. But if I can find a similar one I'll tell!

Thank you all for your comments!

Yes, the original was 1,350 pounds, and was cut longer, and in my opinion looked better, and a ton of personal preference stuff, but on its own it's a nice coat I think.

It really does, honestly by itself it's a great looking coat. I just wish it was as dark and as long as it used to be.

Cuffs look wrong and the buttons too big for as far as I can see in a few seconds. I might be wrong, but I don't have the resources at hand at th emoment to check

It looks pretty nice in the pictures, but some of those websites that sell movie/tv/game jackets tend to steal images, and I never know whether to trust their reviews, so I don't think I'd risk it. At least on Amazon or eBay if the seller sends you a terrible product or doesn't send you anything at all you can take up a claim with the website.

As someone who owns an original Belstaff, that is to say the Sherlock coat, I'll tell you this... the buttons are too big and out of place, the collar is wrong, the cuffs are ridiculous, it squeezes in in the middle, and if that weren't enough the material looks like some type of cloth when it should be a woven tweed. I would avoid it. But keep looking, you can find a better replica.

FYI, the look holler is not what I said, lol. The collar is wrong...

I still want to get a Sherlock coat...have been collecting the Doctor's coats lately and keep putting it off. Also still wondering if Abbyshot is going to put one out...I asked long ago and it seemed a possibility but not seen anything more.

You're in a great position to compare the real deal with the tributes. In your opinion, do any of the ones you've seen come near?

I have not personally handled any of the replicas. From what I've seen on eBay and in other forums including this one, all of the knockoffs leave something to be desired but some are reasonably good for cosplay. Just not for wearing like the elegant coat that it really is.
