Serenity- Jayne's Arsenal - MP5SD5, MP5k & Colt 1911

Problem with Firefly/Serenity, is that other than Mal's gun, Jayne's LeMat, Vera (which got what, one appearance? two?), and maybe Zoe's "Mare's Leg," the weapons are pretty much a mundane mish-mash with some occasional redressing, so it doesn't get much love, unfortunately. In any case, you've got some great-looking guns there, Birdie.

Kinda like the Stars Wars OT then :p

I'd agree with that, to a point. But I think the OT did something slightly different that makes them get the love. They kept the guns associated with the characters (yeah, they appropriated E-11s while on the Death Star, but still, Solo & Chewie had their "own" weapons). Stormies had "their" gun. Luke took to carrying a DL-44, as if Solo were a "big brother" he's copying. Leia had the DDC Defender, or whatever it was called. Boba Fett had the EE-3. They got redressed a bit from movie to movie, but they were still pretty identifiable with the characters, becoming a part of them. In Firefly, other than the guns mentioned above, there's not much association of any particular gun to any particular character. In the final battle in Serenity, it's a pretty mixed bag, and not a lot we've seen before. And Joss really doesn't let the camera linger too long on any of them. The guns don't get time to take on much character, IMO.

Shiny.

Those look sweet.

I wish some of the Airsoft manufacturers made the old style straight MP5 mags. I'm considering snagging an MP5K and doing Jayne's bandolier rig myself, but I would want mine to shoot.

That would be tricky if you want to retain accuracy to the prop. Aside from the mag problem, the barrel setup is different to a standard MP5k.

These are the best looking guns I've seen from said show. No antique revolvers, thank god. ;)

A very nice trinity of destruction, Birdie. I really like the 1911. At first glance there's a strong resemblance to the Halo M6D.

How so?. It looks to me like they took an MP5K, and removed the front handguard, then slapped on the scope/flashlight greeblie on the top. Looking at the manual for the Tokyo Marui MP5K, it looks like the battery would get in the way as it seems to run the length of the gun from the butt to the tip of the barrel, so I might have to get a non-standard battery.

I haven't studied the Marui in person, but if you look at the schematic breakdown it doesn't seem to match the real steel where the barrel goes into the receiver with a convex 'sink' (see pic), as this is where the battery is located.

cool.....

im not a fan of the mp5 (seen mp5s in too many shows) , but the mini mp5 and the colt kick ass. any chance you took some step by step pics of the colt being re-made?

yea, firefly/serenity doesnt get much love on the board, but there are some nifty (or shiny) items from it i wouldnt mind adding to the collection.

Can you tell me which $20 MP5K you used?[/b]

I got mine in the UK, but it was pretty similar to this:

I don't have any pics, but I have all of the Illustrator templates if anyone needs 'em :)

I used a KWC 1911-A1 from Den Trinity, a very nice (and cheap) mostly metal springer. It has the correct trigger, rear fin and magazine, but I had to cut off the compensator.

Outstanding. I like what you've done. It's very tempting to want to do all of Jayne's kit. I especially like the .45 With what's on my plate now, that's probably the most do-able...
