Sci-Fi modeling on Elegoo Mars -- Community support/tips

Butterfingers me, dropped by print plate into my Elegoo Mars vat. You can't get the tempered glass as a part though, and so I had to get the LCD assembly. It's not a very expensive part, $39.99 on Amazon.ca. So I get prepared to replace the LCD, and take off the vat, where I noticed I have a lot of cured resin stuck to the glass. I guess I must have punctured the FEP film. I start scraping that off and notice that I only hit the outside of the LCD, where it does not light. The build plate hit the edge and shattered a bit of the glass, surprisingly a small area considering it's tempered glass. I put a piece of tape over it so it won't damage another FEP.

It still works. How cool is that? I guess I'll save the LCD for another occasion.

Seeing that Shapeways has gone bye-bye, I will give this a bump.

I don't have a 3D printer yet, certainly could afford one, but might never have one.

I highly recommend it! Even though I can't really design much of anything, the breadth of what's available out there to print has made replica prop collecting finally affordable for me. Ten years ago, I couldn't imagine having the stuff I have now, thanks to printing them myself!

Haven't posted in here in a while, but I printed this GR-75 transport ship 4 years ago(!) on my Elegoo Mars and Saturn. I originally printed all 8 shell pieces on my Mars and then glued them together (first pic below), but I wasn't happy with the seams. So I ended up combining the first 4 and the last 4 in MeshMixer and then printing those two halves. Much easier to put together. Also, I think I forgot to check that anti-aliaising was on in the slicer, but I was able to sand down the finger-printing a bit. It was fun painting and weathering all of the cargo containers. It's such a weird ship, but the shape is unmistakably Star Wars. The last image is a photo I made with it and some of my Bandai X-Wings.
