Oops, forgot one last construction note.
I was having issues keeping the front detail piece on the model. Remember I made the bottom section to be removable so there has to be a bit of a pressure fit. It kept popping off. So I glued a backing piece on to it and secured it with two micro screws. Also added some strip detail and a couple of small wing sections on the upper front.

I just saw this thread and am very impressed with the clean way you have all the electronics in the engine compartment. Also a fantastic armature. Don't mind if I lift some ideas for my build someday. By the way how did you know where each of the kit pieces goes? Did you wind up using other kit pieces and if so do you remember what kits you used? I got what I could from shapway.

Thanks Tim. Any questions are welcome. I actually found most of the locations by viewing the high res photos available online. However there were a hand full of misc resin parts that were left over. Still can't figure where they go since I scoured the entire model. Looks complete in my eyes. Other than Shapeways I scratch build allot of the extra items and cast copies from a Revell 1:72 panther.

Ok, for the lighting I used Woodland Scenics "Just Plug: lighting components. Although pricey they are a simple, plug together system that allows for allot of variation. I figured that this kit was worth the investment.
I housed the control components, " light hubs" for ease of access in the rear main engine section. These are mounted to a base which is removable. I took the base components out of there plastic housings to make more room for mounting. This system allows me to control the entire ship. I can brighten or dim all the lights to suite room conditions. This also allows a few lights to be sequencing on and off to show activity and break up a standard look. All except for 12 lights (0.50) on the hull side were 0.25 Fiber Optics.
Light blocking was accomplished with Vallejo Black Primer # 73602 as well as the Just Plug Light blocking kit # JP5716. The Just Plug kit provides a sticky rubber substance similar to weather strip caulking. I used this to seal in each LED. Most of the LED's were the stick on type/flat surface with Nano LED's for the center Red engine light and the landing bay backlighting. Custom Light boxes were fabricated out of Styrene square tube for each light.

Now for painting details. Then entire model was base coated in a combination of Vallejo Acrylic Polyurethane surface primer. A 50/50 mix of #73602 Black and #74601 Grey. This acted more as a pre-shade for the panel lines but for me it was very important. I was having a hard time seeing the Vallejo grey primer against the bare resin since the colors were very similar. The darker base coat allowed me to actually see what I was doing.
The main top coat was simply Vallejo Grey Surface Primer # 74601. These top coats were strategically applied with the base coat showing a bit more through the heavy details and flight pods. The main upper body was sprayed a bit heavier to act like a hi-light to focus the eye to the center of the mass. Even tho the primer is grey it is so light it resembles a grey/white under intense fluorescent light. I particularly like this primer as it has somewhat of a semi-gloss nature to it, not flat, so as to reflect the light from each panel. Makes the whole kit more metallic looking. The primer also shrinks considerably and even with a heavy wet coat does not obliterate detail and settles very well into panel lines.
All the markings were applied by hand using Vallejo Model Color Acrylic, Red # 70926. This is a bit of a darker burgundy red but shows up quite well under bright light. I chose to hand paint the markings as I wanted to stay true to the filming original. Although it was a real challenge hand painting around detail and scribing. If I had to do it again I would not have added as much detail and broke things down into components for easier painting. As an example the flight pods were painted attached to the main body. Very hard to paint the front stripes.
There was no weathering done to the kit either than a spot wash of Vallejo Dark Grey # 76517 in the launch tubes.
