Limited Run SaberBay DARKSABER season 3 finish now available (limited quantities) saberbay.com

I didn't realize the blades were printed decals. Will light shine through the printed parts? Can we see what the blades will look like, or will they be the same as the Malibu run?
The blades decals are special. It’s the most aggressive adhesive we could get, I have blades a few years old now and they still look great.

Light shines around the edges and through the lightning pattern. The laminate is durable and scratch resistant and fully intact so the decal feels like it’s one seamless piece and they are all cut out individually so it’s easy to apply. There is a guide in the blade to help aligned it properly as well.

Main differences between these and the ones I did for Malibus will be an updated lightning graphic, and the blade is longer and made out of injection molded parts instead of CNC machined parts. It has new geometry that includes a decal guide and PCB holder.
Physically they are near identical but these are slightly thicker and feel a little more rigid. But still very pliable, they can be bent over your knee.

I can post a mock-up of the new lightning pattern here. I’ve noticed some people might prefer the solid black look. That’s my personal preference as well. I’ll have to take a tally.

The decals can be stripped and the blade can be cleaned off and a new decal can be applied in the event of damage. But again you need to abuse it to cause damage.

On a happier note
Chambers came in!!
And….
I think I nailed the grip darkening.
Boy is it a processing
Instead of darkening I think we need to call it weathering because that really more what it is and that’s really the look we are going for
I think it looks beautiful.
The service will be 40$
Typically I would charge around 55-75$ for a service like this but I really have to reward the Patience you all have given us with this project .
I will email everyone tomorrow with pictures and give the option for the service to be added to your open invoice.

If your invoice is paid in full(which is not require at this time yet) then I can send a separate invoice

All these options and request are kept track of on a master spreadsheet

I have my next to kin and the next to kin after that aware of the spreadsheet and instructions as I literally can only think about this run when I am flying or doing anything remotely risky(like driving in an ice storm last week)

MYFBWY ALL!

Really great looking pieces, all the teams that have worked on this project knocked it out of the park! So glad to have gotten on board, totally worth the wait time expected or otherwise. Thanks!

It‘s really look good, also thanks for the comparison shots!

Question on the “weathering“ - will this be permanent or protect otherwise? As someone mentioned, aluminum black will wear of relatively easy if you handle the hilt from time to time.

I’m definitely going for the handle darkening, so will be looking for the email, thanks for all the blood, tears and stress you’ve went through on this run!

I may have an answer for you. Aluminum Black will wear over time yes but not what you think. Since the Aluminum Black is only on the raised grip part of the body and no metal to metal contact, the wearing of the weathering be greatly reduced. However oils from your hand will eventually wear off the finish. BUT You'll have to handle the saber everyday for twenty years for that to even begin to happen. For an example. I have a rebuilt and refinished Saborforge saber that has this done to it for weathering. It's my combat saber I use for dueling. I duel quite frequently in Atlanta Georgia. I beat the piss out of that saber. I have dropped it on many occasions and it still looks amazing. No wearing yet on it. And I had it black oxided I believe in 2014 So nearly 9 years of consistant handling and combat abuse and it still looks like that day I finished it.

So the blades can take some light dueling?

To add to this the media blasted grips are textured.
The textures comes from micro pitting when The media hits it.
Pigment and color is hard to rub off or wear down if it is in porous surface areas as opposed to smooth

Justin - Can you confirm if the email was sent out? I know you said "tomorrow" this past Saturday but things happen/get delayed. Just checking for those concerned that they haven't gotten an email. :)

Thanks bud.
