Limited Run SaberBay DARKSABER season 3 finish now available (limited quantities) saberbay.com

I agree, I understand the circumstances were highly volitile during the production making the end result different than originally anticipated. But in terms of screen accuracy, I would like if there was an optional service or some instructions to do it myself.

We explained we were going a different route but it’s understandable that it got lost in all the post
We could still over the powder coating
It just makes the recessed areas a little shinier than the rest of the hilt
If everyone wants I can get it done at a local shop for a sample
The photos eve everyone has been referring too was not media blasted on the top grips, it was raw alu.
So starting with the media blasted grip tops may be a different result, likely better

The color of the grips can be changed (it’s like not buying the perfect house cause the paint on the walls is the wrong color) the fact is this will be the best darksaber made yet. I think seeing it in person may also be a factor, pics don’t always do it justice. Just my $0.02.

Any possibility you have some that are not media blasted? I just love these production samples. Maybe I can grab those off ya? :)

Hey Y’all! I’m here with a blade update.

Currently got about 130 finished as of now.
I have around 100 more blades to go, this is a rather complex multi step process so I have a bunch in mid assembly ready to be glued and I have a portion that still need to be scraped and sanded clean.

I apologize for not being able to give super accurate estimates with these but as it is when things are done by hand and this is the largest bulk order I’ve done to date so I had to change up how I approach certain aspects of the project. Bringing in an assistant has been critical but I’ve been unable to secure consistent help most days resulting in some less productive days than others.
That being said I’m happy with the product were churning out slow as it may be. I’m sure you will be too.

Decals are in production now, should have been done last week but they had to order more material to cover my order, I’ll be going in next week to do the die cutting, laminating and the finishing on those and then I’ll have a Video to make going over the blade and what’s required on the user end for assembly.

As soon as the decals are done I’ll be able to ship out whatever qty I have ready and we can finally get these in your hands!

Here’s a rare look at my progress in the shop, sorry for the mess :p

Will there be a plain black decal option without the lightning/crackling effect?

I did a little rewatching of BoBF episode 5 as well as looked back at the images of the prop from SW Celebration. As per usual there's a descrepency in consistency on Disney's end. Besides the two metal pins that appear and dissapear. Some shots the hilt is glossy, others it's not. In some the grips are lighter, and some they are darker. Between everything it seems like the range goes between the color seen in the sample images and the aluminum black. Personally I like the aluminum black job. The issue is trying to make something accurate to the source material which isn't consistent in the first place.

Ok just my 2 cents in the grips I have went back and looked on the the screen and I'm must be seeing something different then all of you. Up close the grips are clearly grey gloss more like a very medium gun medal. I personally think leave the saber as is. The dark grips that in the video that you posted tonight is way to dark.

I think the aluminum black is the most accurate of the different shots. Looking back at episode 5 the best shot we get of it is in the box on Mos Eisley. The grips are actually fairly dark, darker than the samples even. It kinda shifts in the lighting in the video as well. Idk if there's any sort of, Aluminum "slightly less" black.

Would be interesting to see static shots of the Alu Black in different lightings, under like an intense light and in a low light.

I don't know in this screenshot it's clearly grey. first screenshot is in light second is in the box with a shadow over it. I just don't know

Yeah, that's what I meant, in the show it shifts a lot, either it's different props or just lighting but the video from tonight it looks fairly accurate but it's shifting a lot that it's hard to tell. That's why I wanted to see the Alu Black in two different static lighting's for comparison to these shots from the show.

Sorry if I missed this, will there (is there) a list of preferred installers we can consider? I'm jogging my memory and should probably look harder in the thread. In particular, looking for someone with experience installing a soundboard (and I'll welcome any recommendations on which board)

I think you called it with the lighting (and if course cinematography). Perhaps both handles can be shown in different lighting conditions to help people decide. I like how the service option looks a bit weathered, more authentic vs fresh out of the box, but agree it's a tad too dark.

Standard pics are hard to convey what's in hand. Cooked with the large amount of anticipation and emotion invested in this long project for folks (and money). It's understandable if a situational variation from "expectation" results in that built-up anxiety pivoting into explicit concerns.

Maybe it is worth the time to get a range of photos to reassure folks?

Possibly also a 50% diluted aluminum black treatment since the video sample looks great but maybe a bit dark, as people have mentioned.

I feel Iike the complexity of the finish probably makes it hard to get a feel for it in photos and video. I myself am gonna reserve judgement until I see it in person. If after seeing it I feel it needs improvement I’ll go ahead and customize it to my liking as I’ve had to do with a few other sabers. I know that’s probably not something everybody is gonna be up for, but I have a feeling it will be fine and won’t actually need any work.
