I have a quick question. The paint that is on the Denix is there anyway to easily remove it? I've seen people and it all off with, sand paper. I didn't know if anyone used any kind of stripper. I know of one spray can chemical that I use to strip the paint off the super charger rotors. I was wondering if the Denix paint is paint or is it some kind of aluminum black applied to it

i dont think the stripper I'm thinking of would strip aluminum black off

Exactly solo. My grand father was a sheet metal fabricator. He used the term "spring pin". Spring pin and roll pin are the same thing.

Tom any local hardware store will have these, ask the where their hardware section is and your looking for roll pins. Roll pin is a more modern term.

I sanded mine, in large part because the surface needs so much work anyway, it's pretty pitted and funky. But I'm pretty sure it's paint, certainly a coating and not a chemical treatment. If wager that some kind of paint stripper would work. Easy off maybe? Use care though, I vaguely remember reading somewhere about someone dissolving denix parts by accident, though I don't remember what they used.

So this happened yesterday...



I got 2 mausers, one for my ANH parts and then one for Boba's Bespin parts. Going to disassemble the other mauser and finish it up for ANH. First, to finish the ESB blaster. These parts are just amazing.

If it isn't paint, it is a very simple to remove metal "finish" that comes right off with little effort from sandpaper. While I'm no master craftsman by ANY means, it is nice to remove some of that pitting if not all...but I also kinda like to leave some so it looks like the 100+ year old pistol it represents. Or a well used blaster....there goes that prop vs idealized stuff

thanks guys. i am just finishing up a 3d printed project so i'm tired of sanding lol

but if that's what you guys think is the right way to approach this project i'm on board! looks like i'll be hitting up the hardware store for more paper!

You may try some Jasco epoxy stripper. Works to remove black epoxy coating on knives...

EDIT: I actually may try this on my Denix and let you know how it goes.

I have tried to use paint stripper, it don't work, nor does thinners, I wonder if it is powder coated. It does sand off easily, but in the hard to get places it'
s a pita and the alloy is soft so the lines can be damaged easily.

I just used a series of sand paper and small, fine fils to strip off of the finish. No chemicals.

All being well, I should finally receive my parts this coming Monday as I've now received and paid a ransom demand (invoice) from the courier.
With the total exceeding £130 :eek to get these to my door, I can only hope they arrive in good order.

Be careful when removing the paint with any kind of chemical assistance. Even using vinegar on my MGC resulted in a little bit of pitting. Diecast metal is weak.

i did 3 coats of aluminum black on my sanded down denix today... i don't like how it came out and going boba's route with BBQ black

How about hitting it with some steel wool and oil first? Some of the other Denix treated with AB I've seen on here looked much better after the raw finish is smoothed out with very fine steel wool followed by oiling (with 3-in-1 or a gun oil).

Yes, definitely some 0000 steel wool, be gentle. Then oil her up!

I got boba to throw a finish on my ESB blaster but I think I'm going with satin black and some steel
wool for my ANH blaster... we shall see how that turns out.
