Rudy Pando V3 WIP

Something I did with mine... I used a small file on specific spots of the grenade section using some of the photos on the V3 thread. Also a little dremelling here and there.. some slaps around the drive lol and some smacks on the pommel.. ( I got some strange looks while doing it lol) .
Really trying to match up current damage..
yours is looking fantastic so far. Keep up the good work! :D

I would ask Halliwax . He has one and would be able to tell you although... I don’t think the V3 has that machine mark.. I could be wrong though.
I’m not at home this week, but I have one reference photo where you can see the machining mark. It’s not in the same place as the V2’s though. Halliwax added a machine mark to the V3 in his video, which is why I knew to go looking for the reference in the first place.

Well, I took a longer break than I expected haha. Got several gigs back to back and basically didn’t go home for three months. So after resting through the holidays I had a fit of productivity on Friday and Saturday and finished my V3!

I decided to try darkening the aluminum with the EZ Off oven cleaner instead of A14, and honestly I’m pretty happy with the results. It’s not as dark as Halliwax’s, but I think it has a nice patina, and matches a bunch of my reference images.

I took a note from Triin, I think, who used some foil tape on the neck to match whatever is going on on the original prop.

The only thing missing is the clamp card. I have a piece of brass that I’m waiting on from eBay, and I’ll be electrical taping that. Thought about just using the Slothfurnace card, but figured that I’d just do it right the first time.

All that’s left after that is a matte sealing coat, I think. Let me know y’all’s thoughts!

That looks awesome, be sure to wash it very well with degreaser dish soap. The oven clean will turn the aluminum a orange color if you didn’t wash it good enough.

Copy that! How did you get the V3 lever in your video to be rusted like that?

dremel, and a chemical that i use... trying to think of the mixture off the top of my head, i have it written down in the shed for when i need to make more. i can report back, it was all bought at the grocery store... well minus the steel wool

I love what you did to the ring section emulating the misaligned casting! Great job overall!!
Thanks! It was a bit of a risk, but it’s such a hallmark feature of the V3 that I figured I’d have to do something. This will suffice until I can get a chance to get one of PPP’s casts.

so i use a red solo cup, i fill it 3/4 of the way with hydrogen peroxide, then i add 6 table spoons of white vinegar, then 3 table spoons of salt, i stir it (im doing this outside) then i throw a ball of steel wool in there, once all the wool is brown, i can brush the liquid onto what i want rusted, it will start to rust almost instantly.

in 1 hour wash it in cold water to neutralize it

Sweet! That’ll be a great touch for this. Did you have to remove the plating on the lever where you want the rust?
