Who plays Dr. V.F. Kaminsky?

Can't help you for the actor, but the only VF Kaminsky that keeps coming up is a Soviet physicist active in the 60s and 70s, so that's cool to know. Maybe a colleague of Clarke or Kubrick's, like Clarke named the 2010 ship after his space-walking pal?
