I really like it, I was a bit surprised by the change... but it's simple, easy to Navigate, and the New Icons are great too!

Yeah... we knew in advance that was probably going to be the biggest thing people weren't happy about. It is tough to go from variable width to fixed width because it feels like you suddenly lost a lot. While there are some sacrifices, for the most part, the only real change is that things are spread over vast expanses and all that is missing are large gaps. What can be odd is when a very large image is posted... it kinda "breaks" the theme.
Keep in mind this is NOT a full theme overhaul. We just wanted to do the minimum effort to make the new logo work... I am actually blaming YouTube for most of this... and this is why.
When we approached laamberry to do videos for us, and just couldn't stand the idea of putting the old logo on our new videos. We have been sitting on this logo for almost a YEAR! So, we very quietly rolled out the new logo on the YouTube channel... and of course, people picked up on it. This forced us to make an official rollout, which we had hoped could wait for vb4.
In rolling out the new logo we felt it wouldn't sit well to just slap the new logo on the old site, so we made minimal changes (along with a few changes we have been wanting to make for a long time) to make the logo work.
You won't truly see an all new and all custom style until we are on vb 4.0.
Can I steal this quote for all the people who say all I am trying to do is grow the RPF?

The RPF went back to what I used to see before, ie full screen.

We will leave the Legacy Style (the old default style), which has not changed, until we migrate to vBulletin 4.
vBulletin 3.X styles can't be migrated to vBulletin 4 and all new themes will have to be created. We will not be recreating the Legacy theme, but you have it until then!

I want the junkyard back. I feel like this name is not outdated at all. Instead I feel its a part of the RPF identity. I mean what the heck is a marketplace anyway? Are we in the Middle East? :cool

I like the new logos, they look great. Never cared for the "junkyard", market place is pretty uninspired but hey It is what it is.
Being with the RPF through many changes and moves, this change feels a bit different. It reminds me of real life though, the RPF (the site) use to be kind of the quirky, back alley bar thats now being replaced with an applebee's.
I know it's the people that make a place and at the end of the day it doesn't bother me, its still the RPF no matter what it looks like. Just an observation/opinion.
I havent been on the new theme that much yet, however so far the blue text seems to frying my retinas.. it's so intense! I think the blue of the original star wars theme is just about perfect in how bright/intense it is.
Maybe adjust that or even a star wars theme "tribute" in the new format, with just the old forum colors and star background, with new logos and icons?

Job well done guys! Great to move the design away from Star Wars as the stite is a whole lot more than that. Also think the logo is much more versatile.
Agree with some that marketplace should go back to junkyard as it has an RPFee feel to it. But so far so good. Look forward to seeing the further developments!

I like the new theme, but the bright blue is killing my eyes...I have perfect vision and when I look away from the screen, i become blind haha
look at all the pretty dots floating in the air..........

agreed, 'the junkyard' as titles go was original. it helped to differentiate this section from something like amazon's marketplace or facebook's marketplace or google's marketplace... etc...
please bring back the uniqueness of the beloved junkyard, relabel the off topic section or the prop section, but leave the junkyard's title.
how about some CSS tweaking for those of us with widescreen monitors..

I will definitely agree that "Marketplace" is not inspired. It was chosen primarily because it is one of the most commonly used terms for a "For Sale Forum" on a board and we wanted 1) to get away from the Star Wars reference and 2) to add clarity. It is pretty utilitarian, but we feel like it will serve the purpose.
I think that is a pretty good and accurate observation. Some will see that as a bad thing. Some will see that as inevitable change. Some will hopefully see that in becoming a bit more of an "Applesbee's" what is gained is consistency, a broader selection, and the ability to serve more clientele. The RPF certainly isn't the little forum of friends it used to be back in the Star Wars vs Titanic days... oh wait... no... it was nothing but an Octagon back then that would make even the most seasoned fighters tremble in fear. Being small and cliquish certainly has its advantages, but all things change and so do we and we hope even though we aren't as "quirky" and "back alley" as we used to be, that for every endearing nuance that is lost, another is gained.
Couldn't have said it better. Staff comes and goes. Software comes and goes. Even members come and go, but it is the community which makes the site what it is. Each and every person here is a part of what makes the RPF the RPF and while banners and logos will surely come and go, it is the members who give the site its true life.
Which theme are you looking at and which blue? If enough people are having a problem with it, we can certainly look into adjusting it.
We sincerely thought about updating the Star Wars style but ultimately decided that it wasn't worth it as we wanted to leave one style untouched for those who still wanted the old look.
Are you guys talking about the link color blue on the "Dark Background / Light Text Style"?

Hey Art, yeah dark background/ light text. To my eyes just taking that brightness down a few notches on the text would help. The contrast between the black backround and bright blue is harsh. Compare it to the blue on the old star wars theme. It seems to really kicks in when there is ALOT of it on one page (ie homepage and forum topic listings)
