ROTJ detonator charges

Nice work! I'm in the middle of 3d modeling one as well, but yours looks so good I may hold off on mine for a bit...

Dan

Something to keep in mind, re the material the top button is made from, is that the auction description mentions "minor rusting to the metal." I don't see any rust on the other metal parts (thumb screws and photomultiplier vents), so that kind of implies....

(On the other hand, if that is rust, it's sure not "minor.")

I have a hunch about the top part being a bell from an alarm clock or timer of some kind. Some bells are bottom mounted and small to fit inside clocks/alarms/timers. The metal of a bell is also thin which works with Roy's model. Another thing I was looking for is the metal caps that screw on to fan blades. (last photo is a fan finishing cap)

Huh... reading that description, then there is a potentiometer inside?

Bingo!
Of course: the hero prop was functional. Rotating the "volume button" activated the detonator. Did I say volume button? Please check the last image I put here.

I think we're all searching in the same directions. As a Dutchman the first thought was bicycle bells. But it's so small! An alarm bell is more likely. I checked as well but I didn't see any without a hole for a screw in it.

The way I read the description makes it sound like they may have incorporated something like an egg/cooking timer into the prop. If so and based on the bell theory, could they have used the bell of the timer for the top of the knob that is used to wind the mechanism?

Small castor wheel on antique furniture leg I have. Seems like a two part metal mold with it cracking at the seam. The aged finish on is a perfect match so I still don't think its a plastic part.

That potentiometer looks perfect, good top bevel, hole in the side. What's it off of?

Not sure about the size, but here's some bells from pressure cooker and ricer cooker timers. They all have the disadvantage of having rivets or fasteners right in the middle, though. Pretty much any bell is going to, so I'm not sure it's the right avenue.
