Roman Props Thermal Detonator redo

I missed out on the KR thermal detonator, as I was not collecting at the time. So, I started looking for an alternative. I found that roman props make a metal detonator, but the electronics are pretty much just beeping, a little under whelming. I wanted to add a proffie sound board, and proffiezorn has a tutorial for it, but in the KR prop. I decided to do my own.

While looking around researching a build, I found 3d files for a complete thermal detonator including the electronics. I believe it is the source for the old master replicas TD prop. And at some point it may have morphed into romans. Maybe he bought the old design, not sure. They are EXTREMELY similar.

I ordered one, figuring if I can’t do it, at least it’s a nice example of a TD

Here is the original design file:

I got started started designing with the chassis 3d file and completely remade the interior of it to hold all the things needed, proffie board, helper board, speaker, single removable battery, etc.

I left the exterior assuming it would interface with the bottom shell perfectly.

After I thought I had nailed it, I printed it. Well, turns out there were a few small changes. The mounting lugs were off by about one degree each. The lug recesses were much more shallow. Not sure that it even looked right on the roman in the first place. I ended up printing 10 different revisions until it fit how I liked. o_O

Here a re few shots of what I have now, you can see some revisions in the bg.

I ruined the proffie board you see here, so I am waiting on a replacement before beginning wiring. (I actually dropped the TD on it and smashed a needed component)

I mentions above that proffiezorn made tutorial for something like this. You can see in the pics above the "helper board" he designed. I had the board printed and then I soldered the components. First time doing hot plate smd soldering.

I hope it works!

Very nice and clean job

Thanks MojaveTrooper!

I received the new board and I was finally able to get this finished up. Getting the proffie in there was a lot tighter fit than I thought it would, but it worked out.

Its hard to keep finger prints off this thing

Hello there,
would You mind posting the final results with the thermal detonator programmed and working?
Did You add a vibration actuator of some kind to it eventually??

Regards,

Alberto

Oh, I thought I posted the video here, here it is:

I did not add vibration, as I do not think there is room. I barely got what I needed in there!

Hi,
Beautiful job!
I was wondering if you could tell me where you bought the files for this. Also, would you have a link to the proffiezorn video you referenced. I have only been able to find lightsaber references.

Thank you,

Yes. Here is the tutorial page:

But in usual proffizorn fashion, it takes some puzzling to figure out, at least it did for me.

As for the td 3d files, let me look. They were posted here from grabcad, I believe. So, it was free. But keep in mind, while they were very close, they were not exactly the same as romans. I think the bottom shell is what was changed. That's where I had the most problems.

I modeled the new chassis in fusion for the project using proffizorn's pcb's.
