Rookie Stormtrooper - Help needed

I know... I'm a rookie, but I need some help. I'm interesting starting a Stormtrooper costume, but really don't know where to start. I've seen the FX, but understand it's not the best. What other options are there, within a reasonable budget? Is there also a "size" for armor? Being 6'3" 250ish (depending on dinner.. :)) I'm worried about dropping some cash and it not fitting.

I think it would be pretty fun to be in the 501st and find some other people in my area to hang out with. I remember as a kid seeing these guys in parades and shows and I was in amazement. It would be pretty cool to now be the person doing the amazing.... perhaps completing the circle???

IÂ’ve been out on the web and only started getting more confused. So I thought I would come and ask the best. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Buy the FX suit, upgrade the helm to an AP or RT-Mod.

I'm 6'4" tall, 247lbs and fit all the suits, but I look really bad in the SDS (I looked better when I wasn't weight training). Most of the 501st Legion that are looking for a better look do what I said above.

Hook up with your local 501st Garrison and they can hook you up with a supplier for about $550 for the suit.

I have emailed my local 501st garrison CO a few times, but not received any response (I hope that's not an indication of lack of interest). I'm interesting in buying a set of armor, but I don't know where to get a set for a good price. Any help would be much appreciated.

PM me your name and city where you live. I promise you a response and probably can hook you up with a suit from a reputable supplier.

They will get back to you, sometimes they can get a little busy. My CO is Johnny-on-the-Spot.

Thanks all for the responses. I did get a message back from my local GML, and he pointed me in the right direction. I think I should be good to go (except for all the questions I will have as I assemble my armor)

I can't wait.

On a side note, as soon as I got in touch with my garrison, I must say... very impressed with the helpfulness and friendliness. Which is good since I'm a bit lost... Good first impression for our local guys...

Usually Garrisons have a new trooper buddy system in place where they pair you with an old-timer (or hold an armor party) to help you get your suit built. I'd ask them for help if you need it.

Excellent suggestion. It would also help to get to know a few of the local members. Thanks all for the help.

My armor has been ordered.... Can't wait to start to put it together.

I also got a set of flat lenses and some leds for the rear cannister from www.triktoys.com (I'm a sucker for blinking lights)

Next up, my body suite and boots.
