ROLLS ROYCE Derwent Mk8 Jet engine need info

It's doubtful they'll want to take apart a working engine just to check the balance pipes.
That's the only way to know for sure. Even if it has the right balance pipes the flame tubes might be wrong.
Many engines have been found over the years, but there's no way to tell if the parts are right without opening it up (and no engine owner has been willing to do that). That's why only one person here owns an engine and it was partially disassembled when he found it.

It might be possible to tell if the parts are correct if the owner has the service log, but they probably don't or the engine would be worth far more.

This is the one in Marble Falls I presume?

I was trying to get this engine purchased myself but I couldn't get all the details going to make it happen.

So James Kenobi 1138 ... does this mean you have relented and totally abandoned that jet engine in Marble Falls?

Sometimes even when the engine is not fully intact, you can be sold up the wrong path. I was in touch with a guy in Canada who had a display engine. He sent me something which I can only describe as part of the outer can (where the flame tubes are stored - the outer connection piece), and when he eventually sent me pictures of the Balance pipes they were miles different to the ones used on this prop.
Really annoyed me as he pretty much led me on to believe he had these parts.
I also think the size may vary too.

Thanks for the info and I got some pm's. ill respond sometime this super busy weekend. Also going to try to contact the seller again

An update: The seller emailed me back and said he made a mistake and that it is a MK9 not a MK8 engine.

So I've asked some more questions and we'll see if the hunt is still on or not.

Ok got a couple pm's. I will respond soon and try to email everyone on one email.

Just to be up front, the reason I asked you for your price on one is so I have an idea of a realistic offer to make on the whole lot of them. That way were sure to get them and the seller has a real world offer.

We will all confer via email but I need a ballpark to go by.

As for ig88 heads. Not sure. Would it really be worthwhile?

I wasn't sure if you were buying the whole engine, or just the balance pipes. If it were the whole engine, the flame tubes go for a few hundred each and would help bring the overall cost per item down.

I WAS originally thinking of buying the whole engine, taking what we need, selling them to recoup and then donating the rest to a museum...

BUT the seller is now thinking the same thing.

As YES, he knows of the prop premium and reference. I didn't tell him, and never once eluded to it, but apparently he's been contacted by more than just me. I might have been the first though.

I have confirmation the right balance pipe is there though. ^_^

So I'm going to check PMs and start the emails.

I think he is fully aware due to looking at one particular web site where there must be umpteen requests looking for this part in the ads section, and where he is currently advertising them. It really wouldn't take rocket science to search the web and find references to it here on the RPF to understand their significance. It does however look like this seller is going to charge a premium.

Oh yeah, he's said as much in email. We've exchange some emails and the price has gone up from the original whole engine price and now posted on rebel scum forums. The thing there is he hit a crowd who shops licensed props more there and I'm surprised some of them even seem to have not known what the parts were for.

Odd how its more common knowledge here.

Oh well.
