ROLLS ROYCE Derwent Mk8 Jet engine need info

Hi,
I was wondering how much parts of a derwent engine used in props went for?

I am curious as I have found a complete engine and wondered if it was worth my while buying it to strip down for parts.:love

I say that, it may have been sold by now but I thought I would ask and if it's worth while I would see if it was still available.

I know the IG88 head and the inter-connector for the Obi saber came from this engine, were there any other parts used in props?

Mark.........

There's also an oil filter which seems to match part of the Sandtrooper backpack. This was missing from the Derwent that I bought years ago.

There's a big part at the back that was Obi-Wan's stove (cooker) in his hut. Again, this was missing from mine.

And the large fan was on the Death Star laser cannons.

Do make sure that this engine has the correct balance pipes though. These are only present as part of an upgrade. Not all engines were upgraded, including the one I bought. Unfortunately the only way to be sure is to remove one of the clamps that holds them to the flame tubes. In my experience, sellers would not allow me to remove them to check :(

If its the correct one, please put me down on the list for one if you sell them!! Please please !

Thanks in advance and good luck. Keep us posted!

IIRC the intake screen and frame was also used on the Mos Eisley Landspeeder.

They used a bit of that engine for the film when you look at it.

I'm not sure it's still there, it's a first come first serve basis and someone is looking at it this weekend:cry
It's also located at the other end of the country :cry

It's alot bigger and heavier than I thought as it is built up onto a trailer which weighs about 2000lb in total! I'm not sure I have the means to transport it anyway.
I just got really excited when I saw it!:love and as always I think no further than "I WANT IT NOW"! My wife would probably leave me if I was to come home with a jet engine in the back of the car, she thinks I mad already with a few blasters, Lightsabers , a DV Reveal(in the making)and a Stormtrooper!:lol

Do you know the correct name for the upgraded interconnects? It might help if it looks like I know what I'm talking about:lol

Still never say never, if it doesn't go this weekend who knows I might just go for it.:thumbsup

Is it being sold by a fellow named Ivan? I tried to get him to part it out,but to no avail. If you want to talk on PM, feel free Sskunky...if this is him and you don't want to confirm.

There are also variations in the flame tubes.

No one, besides Marcus, has bought an engine even though several have been found because there's no guarantee the key parts we're interested are in there. Unless you can open it up or it comes with a complete maintenance log to confirm the parts it's a very risky gamble.

sounds like this might be too bigger gamble, I know he wont part it out.

Probably. The only reason Marcus took the risk is because his was partly dismantled already and he knew it had the correct flame tubes in it. Unfortunately, once he got it and took it apart the balance pipes were wrong.

Ouch..that is risky. I guess with most of these, we'll never know even when they pop up for sale. I guess I cna't blame a seller for not wanting to open these things up...can't be that easy to do.

It's too bad with these odd old parts that we can't just get in touch with the guys that worked in the factories that made these parts, see if they can get the original specs and go into business reproducing them if the company that sold the engines isn't supporting the product anymore.

That would be great, but I'd be willing to be most of these guys are have passed on or way too old to want to deal with thinking about these old obscure parts of the past.

Bumping because I've found an engine.

Is there a way I can get the seller to relatively easily check for the correct balance pipes?

This is a running working engine, if I knew that the parts we wanted were there I would buy it and donate it to a museum minus the internal parts we need.

This is the one in Marble Falls I presume?

I was trying to get this engine purchased myself but I couldn't get all the details going to make it happen.

Actually I saw that one and since it was from a gulf war era plane I never bothered to look further.

But if you want help with that let's talk. I can use my typing and phone skills tondo what I can.

However this on I found is a running unit and I don't know where it is yet but was quoted a price in pounds sterling so I'm guessing its in the UK.

Price seems reasonable-ish but we'll need to team up on this to get it, parts, or have it shipped here. If we can donate the hull to a museum here that might help in some capacity.

If it turns out to be the right parts and a fair price, I might be interested. It's the only piece I have left to acquire.

The cost of freight shipping on a full engine would likely be pretty expensive, especially from overseas. It might be better to find someone reliable in the UK to distribute the parts if you cannot find a benefactor over here who wants the hull and would pitch in for it.

Very true. So anyone seriously interested pm me and we'll get a group dialogue going.
