Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I'm betting at CE there will be a nice trailer lined up for Rogue One.

I really like the photos I'm seeing! I don't feel like a lot of it is too spoilery because we know where things end up for the next film after. I'm really looking forward to this movie and I wish Disney got sold the property right after Episode III if Lucas had no further intentions to make films. Ah what could have been done in that 10 year gap we had between 3 and 7. BUT technology has advanced a lot in visuals, so we probably wouldn't have gotten then what we do now.

I hop theres no crawl,.....break free from the episodes.....& I would like an electronic score like Tron Legacy....Ex Machina or Oblivion....& no Star Wars theme,...create something new

This needs the Star Wars music - maybe not identical, but it needs the same feel and overall vibe. I would love to see someone like Bear McCreary do something like this.

Again, going back to the Clone Wars movie (which was a few episodes of the television series edited together) - they didn't use the actual theme but a variation on it. I'd love something akin to that.

...and just to expand on an earlier post, I do think we need the "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." title card to lead this movie off. What happens after that... well, I'd dig a minute or two of newsreel type stuff, then Star Wars: Rogue One.

IMO, it DEF needs the opening "Star Wars" logo and fanfare - we're telling a SW story. The crawl can deviate from the trilogy. :) In the end, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to sit back and enjoy the ride!

Bond movies start with the iconic silhouette of the title character spinning on his heels and shooting the viewer, who is looking down the barrel of a gun. Star Wars starts with a crawl and star wars music. It can diverge from there. Don't mess with the iconic imagry which made SW great.

I've pointed this out before - Harry Potter went away from the JW music idiom, and the music suffered because of it. There is no need to try something new to just be new. Save that for the storytelling itself.

Oh yeah - the newsreel intro with the modified music in the Clone Wars movie sucked. Just my opinion.

There's never been a Bond spin-off movie (that I'm aware of). A Bond film is about the character James Bond - a Star Wars saga film is about the Skywalker clan, a Star Wars Story film is about whatever they'd like it to be.

There is a difference between the main saga and these "A Star Wars story" films... it seems that a few of us are inclined to see some thing(s) make a distinction between them.

Man, I wish they kept subtitle as Star Wars Anthology over A Star Wars Story.

I feel its important to keep the crawl with "The Sagas". It keeps a numbered continuity that completes the progress of the story. Its unique and very pleasing. Which was why I appreciated the openning we got into "TFA".The thrill of that specific introduction ,as it lets itself fades into the vastness of space along side John Williams brilliant fanfare sends me straight back into that SW story immediately.
BUT:
The "Rogue One" intro will be a difficult decision to make because it links so rather closely into the chapters, ending as it it does directly before "A New Hope". And it does kind of include the story of the Skywalkers still ie: It has Darth Vader in it and the final creation of the DeathStar weapon. So its all a little bit tricky. But its a great story that I have waited a long time to hear and I'm thrilled it looks like its shaping up into the kind of SW movie I really want to see. It has that VERY ANH vibe to it that I love.
So IMO the standalones need to have a kind of readily identifiable openning, something just as dynamic, but which introduces us straight into the story with the same kind of dramatic energy without the lengthy crawl.
Keep it a briefier,a straight introduction that still appears in the same SW style of lettering ,which then simply fades off screen , leaving a starscape or landscape into which the action bursts. And thats important.
The thing is that for the sagas the long screen time that the crawl takes to wander into the background allows the JW score to build as effectively and dramatically as it does. BUT nothing has ever matched that openning combination of both crawl and music as " A New Hope" precisely because the action has never been allowed to burst onto the screen in exactly the same way as that dramatic chase scene does, though the closest there has been was with TFA, followed by ROTS.
If the JW score is going to be missing (and thats the essential part for me) then make that openning briefer but more explosive, more adult, less sagaish. We don't need a recap, just an quick introduction and then BANG.

Yeah Anthology was definitely better.....If they keep the logo & crawl, at least change the colour so that at an instant you know that its not an episode.....I'm not a fan of the newsreel style

Seeing that this supposedly more of a war movie, I think the newsreel-style might fit. Since this isn't part of the saga and a one-off, the crawl doesn't seem to really fit.

I think what we will see is an effort via the marketing to eliminate the need for the crawls exposition. I think the intention of LucasFilm between now and December is to ensure event he most casual fan will know when they buy their ticket where this films sits in the SW story.

Absolutely. This is still a tale from the same galaxy.

I always felt that the Clone wars would have been better received had it been called, "Tales from the Clone Wars". I think people would have been more forgiving of the format

James Bond spin-off: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086006
"Never Say Never Again"

:lol ;)

Never Say Never Again isn't a spin-off,.....It's a remake of Thunderball because of a rights controversy,....& directed by Kerch

And I feel like I am the only person who really likes that movie..

You're not,.....It went head to head with MGM's Octopussy......I know which one I prefer,.....I love the style & humour,....Kim Basinger & Barbara Carrera......& Rowen Atkinson!!

I cant even remember what the plot or who the Bond girls where in Octopusy??

MGM & Sony now own the film along with the official franchise,....& wish they'd do a special edition with a new score (James Bond theme) & the barrel intro

Wow, you don't remember one of the most stunningly beautiful women in the world (at that time) ?????!!!!! Maud Adams, the only Bond woman to appear twice in two JB movies. Though I do agree with you about Octopussy, it was one of the worst JB films ever. I actually visited a lot of the locations used about twenty five years ago. You couldn't get to the island though because of some parasites in the water.
