Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I've always loved that the ESB one (Imperator class II) has the big letters "S F" plastered right across the front of it. I remember that being an inside joke back during the making of Empire. Once you see it, you can never unsee it!! LOL

See how the first one has the sensor domes perpendicular to the upper surface of the command tower, while the later ones have them straight vertical?

It should also be noted that the ANH Star Destroyer models re-used later on have had the "upright" upper assembly replaced with the "lowered" version.

What Is the 3? I've never noticed that version ?

It's one of the miscellaneous Star Destroyer models at the Battle of Endor in ROTJ, usually called the "multi-module" tower in Star Destroyer nerd circles, for all the sticky-outy windowed modules in addition to the bridge. It's most visible in the film as the one that has the burning TIE Fighter plow into it:

[ETA: I should also point out that the third one down does not, in fact, have a round module sticking out from the bottom edge -- that's the top of a can of spray paint that missed getting removed from the photo the bridge tower was cropped from.]

Who the hell is designing ships these days?

I don't think I've liked anything since the viper mk 2.

Pretty much everything new in TFA was garbage. And those two ships are awful. They look like they were designed by a kid with lego.

I could grow to like the new TIE, in a different context. Not flying around the original Death Star. And did anybody else start humming the theme to Buck Rogers upon seeing the new rebel fighter?

I did really like the updated X wings in TFA an awful lot but the rest of the new vehicles were mostly disappointing. I can just live with the trooper landing craft, but it really needed to be better than a WWII boat with engines tacked on.
Instead of coming up with a single distinct ORIGINAL design for the fighters and craft what they appear to be doing is combining just noticeable elements of the others in an effort to imitate the style of the OT but it ends up looking horribly weaker. Hence with this new rebel craft you have the four engine cans of an X wing, what looks like the front of a Y wing crossed with a snowspeeder , the mandibles from the jedi craft in ROTS (or more Buck Rogers as mentioned!!!!). Even if they just took those round cans off the rebel craft and replaced them with angled blocked engines with stubby wings extending out from the mandibles that would improve them hugely. Streamline it like a fighter!!!!!
It rather looks like something a kid would doddle in his notebook whilst bored out of his mind (or as you say built from lego). And that half a Tie Interceptor!!!!! It simply destroys everything that is elegant and beautiful about that model whilst making the design lineage of the Ties look odd. They should have left it well alone with the original Tie or something less refined like the original McQuarrie illustration. Really there are some stunning sci fi illustrators out there who do brilliant spacecraft design work for a huge variety of media but the stuff we are seeing here is worse than the prequels and that hurts to say.
Sales for these new designs as either well loved toys or collectables is going to take a hit and a half.
