Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I know some people would hate it, but I'd actually like to see a story where a Rebel unit has some mothballed/salvaged Republic star destroyers. Maybe even have Rebels with Clonetrooper armor parts or something. That stuff is probably littered all over the place.
BTW. There were Y-wings in the Clone Wars series. They were presented as a new fighter design and they had coverings that Y-wings in ANH did not.

Rogue One left/TESB right. They certainly look different to me. Is that part supposed to be on some kind of scissor lift or something?

Your ESB pic is a different model. They also reused the ANH model in ESB, and in those shots it still had the antenna thing, but folded down so did not protrude above the shield generator domes.

Oh okay. That makes sense, I've just never heard of this folding thing. I just assumed it was removed from the models or something. I mean, I knew Empire had a larger SD model, I just never knew why they changed the design for it.

They used the ANH star destroyer? When?

I didn't think so either. But unless I mistook what Treadwell said...

The ANH model was different in a lot of ways, most notably the side walls were a lot more narrow and less detailed. It would have looked odd next to the ESB models.

There would be a plug section that would fill the hole, which never seems to be included when it's on display.

One thing I never understood about that model is that it seems to have a section cut out for the mount on the starboard side.

But you don't see it in the film. Am I missing something?

Maybe they mirrored it like so many other things in SW

Here, too. Another tell is the shield globe supports are perpendicular to the plane of the sloped bridge section, rather than to the horizontal plane of the ship overall.

Image flopping was done all the time, but the starboard side of that model, which was unfinished in ANH, was filled out with detail for ESB, so a plug for the support surely existed.

See how the first one has the sensor domes perpendicular to the upper surface of the command tower, while the later ones have them straight vertical?

It should also be noted that the ANH Star Destroyer models re-used later on have had the "upright" upper assembly replaced with the "lowered" version.

[ETA: I should also point out that the third one down does not, in fact, have a round module sticking out from the bottom edge -- that's the top of a can of spray paint that missed getting removed from the photo the bridge tower was cropped from.]
