Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

The worst thing in the trailer is that klaxon. If RO doesn't win an Oscar for sound editing, that will be the reason. I think the sound is a Taun Taun getting crushed in the trash compactor.

Horrible.
See, I think the klaxon was one of the most memorable (in a positive way) things in the trailer. Instantly recognizable as Star Wars, and very immersive (imho)

So cool about the tube station, thanks for posting that!
Thanks for the lesson on the uses and sound qualities of space klaxons, but I still don't like it. Didn't imply that I didn't like it because it didn't sound cool.
I just thought it was the worst thing in the trailer.
Reelo above just said it well, but I thought it was one of the best, because not only the visuals of the sets, costumes and props, the trailer harkens back to the SOUNDS from the original movies, as well.
I loved that sound.

I liked the siren... but to me it sounded different than the one used in jedi. higher pitched, or faster pitched, but it did sound different

this sounds more right

It's worth noting, I'm 5'10", 165 lbs. and a competitive Ironman distance triathlete and sub 3 hour marathoner. It would likely not be a stretch to say even at age 47 I am in better physical shape then 99% of the people here. Having said that, a fit woman well trained in combat could drop me in a New York minute.

If I knew nothing about Star Wars that klaxon sound would be a bizarre noise breaking the dramatic tension of an otherwise fine trailer. But the Star Wars roots run pretty deep in me and that sound just tugs at my nostalgic heartstrings. That they would know this seemingly dispensable bit of atmospheric background noise from the OT would actually be a terrific leitmotif for the OT means they get me. Thus I have faith in what I'm about to see. I love it.

Or any woman, I'm betting. Just kidding!

I think that is why I have been looking forward to this movie more than I was The Force Awakens. What I have seen so far has not disappointed

I find it weird how many people think this story won't be that impactful because we know how it ends...

Honestly, I wasn't THAT enthralled with the trailer until that final shot...

"If you continue to fight, what will you become?"

THAT shot... You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.

This girl isn't getting a medal at the end of ANH... A movie needs stakes, and these guys stealing the plans from inside the Death Star... There could be some crazy intense scenes. We don't know that anyone gets out alive.

Make us care about the characters, then make us fear for their lives. Yeah we know they accomplish their goal, but who makes it out?

Didn't wanna just hit the "Like" button here. Great post!

I...ahem...NEVER...thought I'd say this....but Bryan, you're being modest.

My biggest problem with that moment is that I watched at work with my earbuds on... Caught me off guard.

Wow, this thread got interesting quickly. I think the important thing to remember though is...

I find all opinions interesting, I actually really liked the Rey character in TFA and it wasn't until somebody pointed out all the "Mary Sue" (?) character traits did I actually notice them. It's probably because I was just so wrapped up enjoying the film that I didn't realize it. Now that it's been pointed out it still doesn't change the character for me, one of my favorite parts of the movie is when Finn and Rey are running around avoiding Tie Fighters and Rey says to Finn "Why do you keep taking my hand, I know how to run..."

I wouldn't necessarily mind if there were "Jedi" in this movie, just don't want them to be the focus. I'm looking forward to this movie BECAUSE it's not about the Jedi or the Skywalker family or "The Force". It's like people who root for Batman(Han Solo) over Superman(Jedi Knights), people like Batman because he's just a dude with no superpowers. Although I would really enjoy seeing Darth Vader tracking down leads on where the stolen plans have gone and just reeking havoc with anyone or anything that gets in his way, you know visually see some non-prequel Darth Vader action and anger.

This kind of stuff that reminds everyone why Vader is the most feared person in the Galaxy.

That was a great line--especially the way Daisy delivered it! I laughed out loud in the theater.

I missed how this is relevant to this topic, but I'm a former Army officer, trained in all kinds of weapons and even had some CQB training with SOCOM units.
I look about as menacing as Jar Jar Binks, but in all humility, I have been taught how to do some truly scary things to people if it comes to that.
All that said, people mistake hand-to-hand stuff with real 'combat' training, most of which involved weapons. One Ranger told me, "The Marquis of Queesbury was a [pansy]. The fight isn't done until you're sure that their body isn't in the same arrangement as you found it. If they're still breathing, you better have planned that as you intend on questioning them for intel later. Otherwise, you're wrong."
It's more like that scene in Raiders where Indy caps the swordsman with the Webley revolver. Fair fights are for movies. Throat/sucker punch and kick where the sun don't shine if you've lost your sidearm or knife.

relevant to the last 5 pages of this thread of complaints that a female lead action hero is an impossibility.

It's the way these posts are interpreted. Generally I'm not offended by anything. But I enjoy taking pokes at individuals "feels"... lol (GROW UP) Yea I have a gripe about how these films are depicted. Bring a stick to a gun fight... you're going to loose.Make a character look ridiculous and out of place/time, yea I have a gripe. Realistic "female" hero roles in an action, "BAD-ASS ROLE".... where are these girls in real life on the front lines?Navy Seals? Rangers? Delta? No they don't exist. So no I don't want to see unrealistic depictions of so called "heroes". I want to see something tangible and realistic, to make me feel about the actions and actor involved.

I guess you missed the photographs of them walking while the men carried their 80 pound backpacks for them.... On TOP of having to carry their own.

Ah, thanks.
I have seen women in the Army who could kick as much backside as they wanted in a Star Wars universe. I don't see Stormtroopers running very long distances or carrying very heavy loads much in those movies. Rey can fly and she can shoot (and handle a lightsabre), which is pretty much all I see that is needed.
As for the Rogue One character, I have ZERO problem accepting she can fly, which is what they apparently needed her for.
So, let's go through the 'needed skills for SW' checklist...

Can a woman:
Handle a firearm? Yep, I saw it countless times myself. I tint wife can shoot better than some Rangers I served with.
Fly a fighter craft? Yep. I just ask the Navy of Air Force that question. They've been doing it for a few years now with no problems.
Run? Yep. Look at who's running in any marathon. Plenty of women there.

So looks like to me like a woman could easily have the skills to do well in the SW universe!
