Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I think I remember George saying that it is suppose to be the same death star between Ep. 3 and 4. Not sure if it was the DVDs or what. But now I wonder with Disney, what they say it is.

Wow.. Um... Okay, I thnk you need to do some refresher reading. ;)

ok,

maybe i am getting two mixed up.

was it dalla or isard who released the alien killing virus?

I have a feeling now it was the latter.

Yeah.....it just doesnt fit......20 years,.....it shouldnt have been in ROTS at all,....id say

Maybe should have seen the construction of Star Destroyers instead

J

who's to say it took 20 years?

it's always possible there was some kind of trouble technical wise that kept it from being 'fully functional'. the main construction could have been finished for ten years prior to ANH.

It's threads like this (well, certain folks in it) that make me seriously consider checking out the ignore feature.
I deliberately went into TFA 'blind' no spoilers at all and I loved it. But because this looks like it's part of the story we already know, just adding more depth, I'm kinda enjoying seeing the trailers/teasers this time. The use of real locations like the tube station makes me feel childishly excited, maybe because it somehow seems more real because I could go there? I don't know how I feel about Forest Whitaker, seeing him immediately makes me think of his comedy roles... but then again I haven't seen anything with him in for a while so I should be able to look past that.
Put me down as one who doesn't mind the 'idealised' Stormtroopers, between the long-time fans who want acuracy to the originals and the new/casual fans there's probably 90% of folks who wouldn't notice a difference, and plenty who, if they did, would want to know why the helmet they paid for was 'wonky'.

Maybe the dish structure in ROTS was a dry fit, a mock-up installation. I work designing/building airplanes, and this sort of thing happens all the time in pre-production builds.
There, problem solved.

Or maybe that first one was Dish Network, and Vader be all like "I'm not paying $85 a month for ESPNU", and the emperor's all like, "what if we get Direct TV? I hear we can change channels with my light saber", and Tarkin's like, "hey fellas, I got an ad for a free Visa card from DirectTV if we switch, that two year contract ran out years ago, right?". and then AT&T came along and pointed out that their logo is really just a stylized DeathStar anyway, and since they recently aquired DirectTV that sealed the deal. So, what you're seeing in the clip is just a satellite TV upgrade, nothing more.

Oh yeah - Mary Sue. Can't make a post without bringing HER up. Mary Sue, Mary Sue, Mary Sue.

I've seen that posted so many times and honestly, I don't see anything other than two shots from two movies of two different girls with lights behind them. We could pull the same shot comparisons of all sorts of characters from all sorts of films. I see no special level of resemblance between the two that should lead to people drawing comparisons. There's just as much different about the two images as there is similar.

All black, similar lights, backpack, front armor, hairstyle, facial expression, items coming out of back pack, same pose, high collar. The only real difference is one's looking at the camera and one isn't.

I can only see resemblances, to be honest.

And I don't care that it's the same, I'm just saying, yeah- it's the same.

Right, just because something is coincidental doesn't mean it's intended to be evocative. The implication is that Jyn is Catniss and we have zero indication that is the case. But it makes for good click bait, so....

Hey, it took 20 years to build the great pyramid :lol

But seriously, I could see it taking that long.. think about all the interior work that needed to be done once the structure was completed. Also, they may have needed to recruit and train a lot of people before the base could be made fully operational.

This is what happens when we have movies with very female protagonists in popular genre movies. People are drawn to make inept comparisons, cause there isn't a big pool of female characters to compare to begin with.

There are probably dozens of John McClane inspired characters since Die Hard, but unless the plot is identical to that movie most of us wouldn't even realize the similarity between those inspired characters cause they are all part of a vast ocean of male characters.

I probably need to watch more movies, but besides Ripley, Sarah Connor and maybe now Katniss I don't know that many female characters who were central lead characters in big franchises that are part of general public consciousness. Black Widow, Hermione doesn't really count. (Pretty sure someone is going to offer a rebuttal by listing supporting characters to disprove my claim or going to list panned franchises like Twilight)

Jyn Erso is bound to be compared to Rey, if not to Katniss (even without the visual similarity), as there aren't any other major female characters in fandom. But apparently Jyn is already too much for some people's testosterone.

Enough with the PC BS Disney, keep my beloved franchises male centric and keep those female roles limited to secondary characters, love interest or damsel in distress like those Disney movies about princesses and magic or something.

Since that scene seems to take place shortly after the birth of the twins and the main Death Star we know from ANH is basically considered to be in its "maiden voyage" 20 years later, I have always assumed that the construction shown here is merely a prototype. Hard to believe it would take them 20 years to build the battle station we saw in ANH.

I think it's absolutely believable that it'd take 20 years to secretly build a space station the size of a moon.

How did we get to the point where misogny is the new hot internet buz word.. like haters was before it?

I miss the days when we just talked about movies. gender, politics, agendas...people like feig and Bay and JJ didn't exist in our movie worlds.
Can we get back to the time when we argued about a movie company forgetting plot points?

I've heard enough about misogny and agendas and twisting peoples words to last a life time...oh.and intentional trolling too. people who do that need to some kind of hobby or something...

....well I suppose its taken me 8 years to build a FineMolds Millennium Falcon model....:cry

You had me until the last line - not sure if serious or sarcasm. I find the whole claim people make about every little thing being "PC" a cop out.

Give me a good story, good characters and who cares if it's a female or male lead.
