Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

First, my home Vader suit is a hybrid itself, so I'm not one to criticize.

From the EW photo, it looks like we are getting:

1) An idealized ANH helmet (yes, I know Muir sculpted this one, too)
2) ANH chest and belt boxes
3) ESB/ROTJ chest plate and cape/robe placement.
4) ANH style gloves

(And the Vader helmet in ANH looks wonky in several scenes, most noticeably on the Tantive IV.)

I think the disconnect that some are seeing here is the ANH and ESB/ROTJ styles together in the same costume.

No, but neither have I said that there's definitely something wrong/off about it, just that there seems to be. Like I said before, I'm not of those people who normally pick the costumes apart by saying things like the color is off by a hair, a stitch is in the wrong place, or anything like that, just that something seems to be off about Vader in the pics, not that something is or that the movie is going to suck because something looks off to me. Chances are that once I'm watching the movie I won't even notice, much less care, I certainly don't really care now as I was merely pointing out an observation and not making a criticism.

Totally with you on this, RICEBALL.... and I completely get what you're saying: you aren't nitpicking or naysaying. you're just saying something feels 'off" which you can't place, and you've also indicated that when you watch the film you may likely not feel the same.

I felt the same when i saw them. something seems odd. but it could be a combination of all of the above plus the fact of not having the exact same version of David Prowse in the costume, blah blah and also a smidge of i haven't seen Darth Vader portrayed onscreen since Jedi so it just feels new and weird.

Agreed... I thought the Vader stance and walk was very well done - can't wait to hear the dialogue. What struck me as "odd" was the angle of the mask/helmet. But there are certain angles of Vader's helmet that seems a bit off even watching the OT.

We'll know when we know! And we're getting closer and closer! :)

The shoulder armor is just too wide, IMO. It's giving him a real "squared-off" look at the shoulders. Vader didn't have that kind of a silhouette in any of the films. That said, the excitement of having Vader in a new SW movie overrides any nitpicks I may have for the overall look.

Vaders top dome appears to sit much lower. As if hunched down on the back. Could just be me, im no Vader expert, but ive seen this happen on many fan worn suits.

one thing that may not have been mentioned is whether or not we will see artoo or threepio in this. I remember hearing at one point that this movie was suppoesed to end 10 minutes before the beginning of ANH, so....who knows?

I kind of hope not....or maybe from a distance....no sounds or dialogue.

I hope it does well to show them that a non Luke/Leia movie will do well. I think they have been setting the bar low for this, so hopefully they will be surprised.

I don't want to see them in it. However, I would have no problem with the Tantive IV flying through at the end to intercept the plans, going to hyperspace, and then credits. Either that or have the Rogue One crew hear something like "Transmission received." Tantive IV fly through, and then they all go out fighting. That would be perfect.

I agree completely. Frankly, I don't even want to see the tantive 4.

But, ya know....'memberberries

You almost have to have it though because unless they totally change the story, the Tantive IV flies by and intercepts the plans. You could have the Rogue One crew fighting to hold out while protecting a transmitter, then just hear "Transmission received" and then "they've gone to hyperspace". Then the Rogue One crew knows they succeeded. It would work either way.

But do you have to have it? The end of this film doesn't have to be a literal relay race, where we past the plans into leia's hand.

The is film could end with the acquisition of the plans. It could end with them sending the plans with someone who will then take them to Leia.

I think part of Vader looking different may be because the guy in the suit doesn't quite have the stature that Prowse did. I also agree about the cape. Looks like a cheap costume cape. Looks mostly good, though. P

I honestly don't think they spared an expense with the suit with the budget they have nowadays. Spencer Wilding is not a skinny guy.
