Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Post-release)

I am guessing that Vader did not catch up with the Tantive IV immediately after the end of the film. I would have to guess Leia ordered a jump to hyperspace immediately after she received the plans. Why wouldn't they get the hell out of Dodge ASAFP?

Which leaves me wondering why didn't they jump straight to Alderaan. Why were they in real-space over Tatooine when they got caught? Were they trying to make several jumps from different points to throw the Empire off their trail?

Perhaps the ship's hyperdrive engines were failing, and they had to stay in (or drop to) sublight to make repairs? I don't know. I guess that is a plausible answer.

I think there was maybe a few hours or more of car no mouse between Vader and the Tantative which prevented her from going straight to Alderaan so she opted to make a run to Tatooine to find Obi-Wan and hand off the plans.

Yes, a few hours of "cat & mouse", exactly. Give the Rebels some time to come up with their admittedly flimsy cover story. And since Scarif and Tatooine are both Outer Rim territories, that all would make sense.

Looks like it's on track for a $156M opening weekend. And I think repeat viewings and good word of mouth will carry it forward into the next few weeks.

Complete disaster?

It was a fun ride. Not perfect... But what has been since 1980?

I have a lot of respect for CaymenShen and Darkside72... But seriously... To all who thought this was a complete disaster.... Just stop watching anything Star Wars related right now because you cannot be satisfied. No one will make YOUR perfect SW movie. It's over. Accept it and do something else with your life.

Episode8 and the Solo movie won't be better than this was for you meesa thinks.

That is not true...I loved Episode 7.I also like Episode 3.The only movies I really hate are Episode 1 and 2.
I don´t hate Rogue 1..he has his moments...but the movie is a boring desaster compared to Episode 3-7.
You and others can like what you want...no problem for me.;)

Good word of mouth not from me!:lol

Having read all of this thread so far, I'm not going to say what's already been said, but I am SUPER curious as to what happened in the original ending! Because the missing TIE-rising-at-end-of-gantry and Jyn, Cassian AND K2SO (obviously not "dead") running with the DS plans both on the beach and at the "tube station" have me super intrigued. Also, what the hell happened to this guy?:

Hasbro figure, HOT TOYS figure AND DisneyStore Elite Series figures of this guy came out before the movie (and he was exclusively revealed on the Star Wars Show), so he must have originally played an important part in the story.

And just cos I'm a big creature fan, where where the Jedha "camels"? They made it into the Galactic Atlas book, but I only managed to spot the lower stomach of one of them in the background in the movie. :(

On the plus side, not seen anyone mention it yet, I LOVED the OT holochess creatures in Saw's base (wooden carved pieces instead of holographic). :D

I think we saw those camels briefly in TFA on the starkiller base

As for the alternate ending, personally I think that she escaped the tower on the tie fighter. Either is was someone rescuing her or she jumps on and takes command.

There was no explanation at all how they got down and on to the beach.

But there was one very odd shot of the top of the tower being destroyed. No explanation at all. It was just a background shot. It may have had something to do with the Tie fighter

Although I liked the inclusion, the difference in film quality was noticeable. The footage of Red or Gold leader was both grainy and more blurred.

This actually could have been a key to making CG Tarkin and Leia look more convincing to some people. My recollection of them in A New Hope includes film grain and softer focus. CG Tarkin and Leia were so starkly hi-res and crisp in R1, that in itself was odd to me. The models and animation were amazing. I bet if they'd emulated just a bit of ANH film quality to those scenes it would have covered up a lot of the robotic perfection of the models.

Still the work was fantastic. Now I want to see an entire Tarkin movie.

Tarkin's first scene was by far the least convincing, which probably didn't help. It's a tip-off that there's something phony going on with his character and you're looking out for any flaws later on.

I noticed the film grain too, it might have been better if they had shown them zoomed out a bit, actually looking back from the nose of the x wing so they wernt full screen.

I will say that I loved the movie, and I was absolutely blown away by the CGI of Tarkin and Leia. Leia was alright, and Tarkin was amazing. Normally when they do CGI like that in a film they limit the screen time as to not give the audiences many chances to see that it's CGI, but Tarkin had a huge role in the film and I would have bet money that it was actually Peter Cushing! I found the story very entertaining, and I was very pleased. Really I'm noticing the only people really complaining about the film are the people who went into it expecting a different outcome, as if Episode IV didn't happen! It did folks, in this instance, the future has already been written, we were just luck enough to see a glimpse of what happened to cause that future.

****SPOILER ALERT****

News Flash folks, you already know what characters appear later in the saga, and which ones don't, so you shouldn't be surprised by the direction the story goes. That would be like watching Episode III and saying, "Wait Anakin, don't go to the Dark Side, there's still a chance he won't go to the Dark Side." REALLY!? WE ALREADY KNOW HE BECOMES DARTH VADER!!!

So please go into this film with the mind set of, it's purely entertainment, and its story was already established "A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far Far Away," we're just finally getting a chance to see that story. Think of it this way, and this is as simply as I can put it..... Imagine the World of Star Wars has a bunch of Security Cameras and that's what we've been watching, now we know that "Rogue One" happened, because we have all the reports (Episode IV) but now we can finally see those events because they were able to recover that footage. So enjoy the movie, but take it for what it is, it's just filling in spaces in a timeline that we already knew existed. But this is all just my opinion.

Possibly. I also thought maybe Tatooine was actually their destination all along. We do know that Bail had given them orders to go there and they definitely wouldn't tell Vader that. With Vader she would've made something up like going a mission to Alderan.

The timing of it all is a little strange...one reason I want to see it again, I may have missed something, but my impression was that they were either already on their way or about to leave for Tatooine when they got the call to divert to Scarif.

About CGI Tarkin, I knew from the early rumors that he was gonna be in it, but I had no idea how big a part he was gonna play in Rogue One. And that's part of what made the movie great for me, seeing the Tarkin character fleshed out even more than in ANH. Is he perfect? No, but he was convincing, far more convincing than Clu in Tron Legacy. And if you gave me a choice between CGI Tarkin and an actor buried under makeup and prosthetics to look like Cushing (like the pic below from ROTS), I'll take the former any day.

Speaking of Bodhi, he is the only one we don't see die in person, but the other thing that strikes me is how effective those grenades are, one grenade takes out the entire ship, and Luke's grenade in empire takes out the entire ATAT.

These things are so damn effective, why arent they using them all the time?
