Re: Rocketeer costume/ budget scratch-built rocketpack *Update 10/11*

Got it all put back together, its now about 99% done, just have to wire it all up, add brown pleather to the backpack straps, and then it will be done!
It has been so much fun building it, im sad I'm almost done :(

thanks! I installed the lights this morning, now all I have left is to wire them up to the switch in the gauntlet, after I dye the gauntlets this weekend. And wrap the backpack straps in brown leather/pleather

Yeah, I agree. The lights add more depth to it for sure. What I would recommend is that you maybe go in there and add some black tones to make it less flat silver, especially in the flipper portion where the exhaust would burn them.

Will you be doing your baby powder idea?

yup im gonna add exhaust blast marks. I decided against the baby powder Idea, there isnt enough room in my pack to add it, plus I dont want to get powder everywhere

I think I found a way to add dry ice to the pack if you're still interested. It disappates, so it won't attach itself to anything, plus it looks killer.

I'm going to stuff my engines full of it and have chicken wire be a 'removable grate' to keep the chunks from falling out. The temperature of wherever I am will be enough to lightly mist and sublimate the dry ice.

Dry ice will sublimate very quickly when water is added, but if just left on it's own, will sublimate slower, over the course of a few hours depending on how much and what the temperature is.

I don't know how that would work with your lighting setup from within the engines. It may need to take some tweaking. But just thought I'd pass it along because having smoke would be pretty rad to accomplish!

Finished my gauntlets, and wired up the buttons to the jetpack, put a quick disconnect so I can take the gloves off with ease. So now the costume is done, and waiting to win some contests, one last piece of the puzzle is in the mail, Deathproof mailed me some Beemans gum, and im going to chew it and stick it on the pack hehe. And I got my Mauser airsoft gun, wont be able to take it to the contests, but I can use it for photoshoots!

This is a fantastic build - One question though: Are you going to put some gum on the pack when you're finished? ;)

Awesome build! The lights really take it to another level. I also love the color of that jacket. It may not be screen accurate, but it gives it the look of the comic book!

Won 300$ bar credit so far, for 3rd place. Had some stiff competition too.
The rocketpack sustained some damage during the night, nothing a little chewing gum wot fix ;-)
