I have to say I am really looking forward to seeing what kind of mess they make out of this. I usually try to look on the bright side but I have no faith in this one.
The reactions to the trailer should be highly entertaining.

one thing that has got me interested is that miguel ferrer who played bob morton in the original is in this remake as a new character
i have a hard time picturing miguel ferrer as anyone other than bob morton and that classic quote by dick jones.
he has a very distinct face
much like kurtwood smith who is immortilised as clarence boddicker and paul mcrane as emil the toxic avenger
the original has provided me with a lifetime of quotes that cannot be matched other than a decent arnie one liner.
oh, i long for the days of classic one liners in classic movies that become greater than what they were intended to be.
the social commentary of robocop became reality, and simply cannot be remade unless you have a director and writer with true balls and grit.

The problem these days, it seems, is that the script writers are trying too hard to create new "classic one liners" and, unless they have a proven track record or manage to connect with an actor who is able to deliver cheesy lines well, they just feel forced and obvious. It has to happen organically, and you can never really tell what an audience is going to respond to.

You know honestly I have thought the same thing about movies today, I really really would love to see a new classic one liner in a film these days but like you said they try to hard to do it and that's not how it is supposed to be!

A great example of this is the two Expendables movies. Every attempt at creating a zinger of a one liner fails miserably...and every attempt to put a re-spin a classic one liner only shows how hard it is to recapture the lightning in a bottle.

Although not from a movie, another great example is Clara Peller in this Wendy's commercial from 1984:
Where's the beef?
The producers and Wendy's execs thought the "funny" line would be, "It's a very big fluffy...bun." But the line that caught on with the public was, "Hey! Where's the beef?", which almost instantly became a common catchphrase here in the U.S. at the time. Wendy's, and some of their competitors, created "sequel" commercials in an attempt to cash in on the line's popularity, but none of them had the "magic" of that first commercial and the craze eventually died out, though some people still use the "Where's the beef?" line as a sarcastic comment about something that's woefully inadequate.

It doesn't look like a total train wreck but I'm not liking what appears to be more interaction between Murphy and his wife and son...and he got injured when his car blows up? The pure brutality of Murphy's murder in the original is what elevated the emotional impact of everything he went through. I guess that sort of violence is too much for what will probably turn out to be a PG-13 movie. Looks like a rental.
