Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

Everyone comparing this to the original are missing the point because they're explicitly trying NOT to make the same movie.
Then they're explicitly trying NOT to succeed.

This is nothing but a cheap knock-off, a boring, predictable, mindless action movie cashing in on the name. And I will not, WILL NOT, support the studio in this. Anyone who runs to the theater to see this, for whatever reason, is telling the studios that it's quite okay to keep doing this. And it's not.

Did you read the rest of my post? YOUR way of thinking is what gets us the Psycho remake. The Thing remake/prequel. Carrie remake. Why the majority of the Platinum Dune remakes are dull and uninspiring.

Remakes like Ocean's 11 are a great idea, because they try to improve upon something that was promising, but somehow fell short of the mark. When they try to remake an iconic movie like Robocop, they are just looking to ride on the success of the original. If they think they have so many great ideas on how to improve upon an already great movie, then why not come up with their own title, and why put an iconic line from the original in the trailer?

Having seen the last trailer, I can't help but think about the silly CGI in the last Hobbit movie, as if people are subliminally drawn to the theaters to watch that crap.

It's all a Conspiracy! :lol

I've sen that movie at home by the way, like I'm going to pay to watch that Horsegrind :thumbsdown

No. MY way of thinking would, in a perfect world, result in NO REMAKES AT ALL.

Well, if they had to make a Robocop film, I think it would have been interesting to go with this idea, and then reveal that the original model is still around.

Robocop vs Rubbercop.

Of course, I think the idea of original Murphy has been used in some fan production (or at least a comic).

And this is why I considered for a minute or two to comment on something stupid a director said, or just think: "Aww, it's not worth typing my thoughts."

Ocean's Eleven was bad? I thought that was a great movie and a good example of "the original is old, so I won't watch it". I think when they do a reboot of a movie that is at least one generation old it stands a decent chance of doing well becaue they will almost definitely plug in recognizable actors for the current generation. Not to say I would never watch the Sinatra version, but I enjoy today's movies better than the "classics" because I feel more connected with today's actors.

Wait, The Thing prequel was bad too? I guess my standards are considerably off compared to those on this site. I loved both "The Thing" movies. I thought they did a great job. Was it perfect? No. There were one or two things that bugged me about it, but oevrall I thought it was a well done prequel.

What's the Platinum Dune remakes? Are you referring to the Sci-Fi channel mini-series?

I wouldn't say the original Ocean's 11 with Sinatra is bad, but I don't think it lived up to its potential. It certainly isn't as iconic as the original Robocop. I was just saying it might be better to find movies that had a good idea going, but somehow didn't quite work out, as opposed to a movie that actually did work out very well, and that people are very fond of.

Kinda like, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Gotcha.... so, given how quick the reboot for Spider-Man came out (which didn't really need a reboot, particularly so fast), we are overdue for a remake of the Star Wars prequels which were Gawd awful. Can I get an amen?

I loved the Lynch version of Dune but I'd be all about an updated theaterical version of that book and the rest of the series. How about Peter Jackson knocking that out after he finishes with the Tolkien movies? Lynch's version was cool but digressed a bit from the original story if I remember correctly. Not sure how well the follo-up books would do as movies since they seemed to get weirder and weirder.

I think they remade the Maltese Falcon three times before they got it right. Glad they did, but that's enough, no need for a fourth. One was enough for Robocop.

Spider-man definitely needed a reboot...Spider-man 3. I rest my case.

Well, by that logic we NEED a Robocop reboot then. Because three was a steaming pile of RoboPoo.

I don't think one bad movie out of three should automatically demand the series/franchis be rebooted. The X-men franchise seem to be holding on despite Brett Ratners contribution.

Some series do though. Like when the cast is so old it's embarassing to watch them squeeze their bloated old bodies into their costumes (Star Trek).

Should Star Wars have been rebooted?

Does Indiana Jones need to be rebooted? Or just continued by having Indy die and someone else take up the role of his son for the next generation?

Somethings can be easily rebooted. Hulk, for example. It also depends heavily on staying true to the character or source material. And not being cheesy, I.E, Spider-man 3...it's a tough choice too make I suppose, but Hollywood has no problems making them easy. Godzilla is also a perfect example of something that should be rebooted. Simple storyline that can be changed to keep things fresh, without ruining the whole plot or character.

So far it sounds pretty generic. Like it was pulled froma TV show. Not particularly epic. Doubt it will come close to Basil Poledouris'. Granted I'm basing this partly on small samples of the tracks and partly on not having a movie to associate it with. Sometimes that actually makes the difference. I didn't like the Star Trek score when I first heard it. Sometimes I gotta let a soundtrack grow on me after I've seen the movie. Sometimes it almost dominates the movie it's so awesome.

The first Iron Man movie soundtrack was awesome... but they changed the composer for each sequel, dropped the theme and both 2 and 3 were complete garbage.

Godzilla... I'm totally amped for.
Spider-Man 3 was a mess. It doesn't help that I hate James Franco.
All of the Hulk movies have been meh. The best Hulk to date was in Avengers. Glad Norton wasn't brought on for that. Ruffalo put Norton and Bana to shame.

Robocop is weird because it seems like they went all out with the casting and then skimped on the soundtrack. I supposed they could have done worse, but I expected a bigger name. I see that as an indicator that the producers don't care about this movie as much as the fans... it's just a cash cow they're trying to bring back to life.
