robo3687's Iron Man Pep Files - SD War Machine links page 73

From what i've seen, it dosent really need alot of work. I shot him a PM last nite and told him that a coat of primer first should tell him what to do next. If he uses the filler primer it should eliminate the need for additional sanding but if he wants to go nuts, I've used 1000 Grit on a wet sanding block for autobody patches, i'm pretty sure that it'll work here too but I think that might be over kill.

can someone help me with the scale with my helmet.. i used the original scaling but it seems like the chin is 2 1/2 inches too long what should i adjust the depth? or i need to do scale up or down to keep the proportions?

Jayjayn - When scaling the helmet, I'd scale to the width of your head. With this model, the chin will always be pretty long but if you scale it down too much, it might end up too narrow for your head (Trust me, I've made 3 helmets already trying to get it to the perfect scale!). Check the scale factor and change the width size to match what you need, plus a little space.

thx...that help's alot i was about to start another one then i realized that when i would adjust the chin area the width would be really bad.. is there another pep helmet that close to sharkmark vi helm that would fit better? but is hd enough .. this was a very difficult first pep

what colors have people been using for thier costumes? Like which reds and golds? and what brand of paint does anyone recommend? I prefer to use a spray can and not a gun! Although an automotive paint gun would probably be the best, i just dont want to use it! :p

suitable shades of red are Banner Red and Candy Apple - i use Krylon fusion. It might be a bit overkill, but it gets the job done - also hit it with a few coats of clear - did that with some past projects and it turns out pretty nice but you dont want to take a flash photo because the gloss will rebound the flash and ruin the pic. Though you dont really need to go overboard on the gloss.

So I am a new pep builder and I am working on the helmet and I can't figure out all the eye folds and how they fit together most of them i have down but there is a certain piece that i can't quite figure out. Anyone can help me out with this, it's the inside of the eye piece that folds in half i believe some of the numbers you have to fit is 148-155 using robo's files. Thanks in advance guys

Shark's IM Helm is a bit on the advanced side and i'd recommend using one of the helmets on Dung0Beetle's site for ease of peping - i posted the link on this page in a previous post

you could try Samurai's helm with the smaller chin or one of dung0beetle's helms

db Peps - Dung0beetle's Papercraft - <-- this is Dung0Beetle's site; I'd recommend the second helm on the page

thx that helps a lot

Thanks for the heads up I will have to check these files out, are Dung0Beetle's pep files just for a helmet or the entire suit? I think since i am almost done with the helmet i am going to finish it best i can and then start another helm using Dung0Beetle's files.

hes just made some helmets - a doubt he'd ever do a whole suit lol

Oh fo sure lol, thought i was going to get away with not so much intricate work. It's all good though thanks for the heads up. Once I am able too i will post what i have finished so far

Actually the hardest pep job seems to me the hd helmet the rest of robo's suit isn't as difficult since there's less crazy small detail unlike the helmet does.. But I have only finished the chest and back piece and helmet so i'm unsure

Right on, I really just want to get this helmet done hopefully it wont take too much longer i think if i can get some time in this weekend i can finish it. Then probably go straight to the chest piece

Seriously I'm trying to hit the Halloween deadline so I'm trying to get this done fast even though this is my first time.. I'm really worried about the sanding and painting part.. Also I decided to change up robo's helmet pep file by adding texture so I could have some color in my first ever pep...

I didn't finish the yellow version of the Faceplate.. So just put on the white one just to get the look.. Unfortunately it seems like the helmet is too big for me

well from the experiments i've done bondo/filler or any thing covering the fiberglass isnt really needed IF you use the fiberglass cloth/mat on the inside of your peices. sanding is a bit easier then as all you need to do is hit small spots with the sand paper.

I agree, Fiberglass resin is the way to go. No matter if you built out of paper or card stock, lite coats of resin will so the trick. But I like one inside & one outside. Two light coats will build strentgth. Then go over the outside with one or two more. A skim coat of Bondo, sand and filler primer. Going back Laveniuk's post about color, I took my que from the movie. I painted the whole suit gold, then went over the red areas with Testor's Candy Apple Red. A couple of coats of Krylon Clear to seal it and..... well, no flash photo's:cool

so i've only done cardboard (not stock) arms for the Cardboard build im working on, and also doing a card stock one. Im about to goto resin with the arms and not sure if i NEED the supports for the arm files as they are smaller, any one have any experiance with both supports and no supports on the arm files? I am really trying to save paper right now as money has gotten REEEEEAAAAAAALY tight.
