robo3687's Iron Man Pep Files - SD War Machine links page 73

Guys, i really could not leave my computer for almost 2 days reading all the posts. I am really happy to say that this forum is an amazing thing. Like others, i am new in this art and looking at all your work and dedication to produce a realistic iron man i became very impressed.
Congratulations robo for your incredible patience to make this file. And i am glad now to be a part of this group.
I am seaching now for the material to begin my IM. I leave in Brasil (Cabo Frio) and the products, measurements, comercial names and shops are very different from yours.
Wish me luck!

Boa sorte, TAZ, and welcome to the RPF! :)

Vlw bro, i have seen posts of another brazilian guys here. We are beginning in this "brave new world" of pepakura and learning a lot with your experience.
I am ready to begin. I will try first the helm.

By the way, does someone have the pepakura of Dr. Doom? That guy<<<<. I have already esculped his helm in clay, molded with silicon and made a mastermold of plaster but i have made only the face. I want to make all the head and the boots, armor, etc.
Thx,
BB

sent you a PM taz - this is for the sake of not hijacking threads

EDIT:

In some experiments i have discovered that (as i ran out of MEK-P) Bondo hardener works just as well as the MEK-P so if any one runs out of the stuff, just use the body filler hardener - gives it a nice red color lol

Is there any way to convert a Pep file to an STL? I have a 3D printer coming and would love to print off whatever pieces I could.

Chris

You can export pep files to obj files via Pep Designer.... then that could be opened and converted in the 3d app of your choice.. however I would check with Paul aka ROBO to make sure he doesn't care if you do. They are after all his files.

I certainly wouldn't do anything without his permission. It was more of a general question of whether or not it would be possible or an easier alternative to cutting, fiberglassing, etc.

It's deff possible.. However these files are low deff for the purpose of pep so I doubt they'd translate well to 3d printing.

That's what I was wondering. Thanks for the answer! I'm sure a higher res 3D model exists somewhere, or I'll take a stab at making my own. I've seen people print Darth Vader faceplates on this same printer, so I'm certain I could print Iron Man's.

I would suggest people do a once over of all the pieces before starting sharks helmet. While its probably the best detailed one ive seen yet and im extremely please I chose it over others, it seems to have a lot of issue with the unfolding. There are a number of flaps overlapping each other in the print out, nearly impossible folds and a lack of symmetry in the parts (one side is unfolded differently than the other instead of having a mirror left to right).

I was wondering if there was any way that some of you guys or gals could post some pics of the attachment points of the armor? Where and how you attach the armor pieces to each other with clips, velcro or magnets. I am almost done with my fiberglassing and wanted to work on attaching the armor next but I am little uncertain as to what to do. Stealth has shown me a little bit "thanks a lot for that" but I would like to see the different ways everyone has. I am sure I am not the only one out there who could use the help. "or maybe I am LOL" !!

No your not the only one! I would like to see that as well. I haven't started my Ironman yet but I am very interested in seeing how people have assembled the pieces and attached them together.

Making another post gang! some more Iron Man updates for you FatylFans!

Fatyl Productions: Iron Man 2.0 Update 7

But here are some pics any way fresh out of the camera. I'm doing a complete custom job on the shins and using the MK III thighs, but I'[m pretty sure its going to come out pretty boss!at this rate i'll be starting the fiberglass tuesday

Anyone have good suggestions for where to get the snap together buckles like seen aobve? I figured bookbags or toher carry on bags but if I spent $20 on a bookbag to get 2 clips I am pretty sure my wife would kill me. So any suggestions on where to get them and how much they cost?

You can order them online for sure. You could also check sewing supply or hobby/craft stores. I know I have seen them there before but not sure what sizes are available in the stores.
