Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

I don't think this was mentioned anywhere in this forum, but I was wondering if anyone knew what a good scale is for a guy that is around 69 inches tall. From what I did i got a scale factor of 23.244669. Can anyone tell me if this is accurate?

I'm around 5'7" (67 inches) and I got a scale of 24.079359 using this scaling method (#1)

EDIT: I used this picture to get my scale

Have you built any of it yet with that scale?
Does it fit properly, and how heavy set are you? im only a little guy! 140lbs.

Unfortunately, I've been so busy with work that I haven't had time to build; I have no idea if it'll fit right, but there's no reason it shouldn't.
Wow, you are a little guy! I'm more of an athletic build, around 153 lbs.

Ok i think ill try your scale, its better to be a little big then too small! i can always add just a little more padding.

Thanks!

I'd suggest you go ahead and figure out your own scale using Method #1. I'm concerned that if you use my scale, the pieces will end up being too short for you seeing as how you're taller than me. I don't think your weight and build are really much of a factor here. Not trying to be mean, but I'd hate for you to waste time, effort, and paper using my scale and then have the pieces not fit.

I doubt it, I used to work at home depot and that stuff is more or less just a paint. it does harden but there is a lot of "paint" in it too!

thanks ^_^

i went to Walmart and found some Bondo Fiberglass resin and it was dirt cheap - $10 for a can of resin and like 4 for the mat - they also had sheets for the same price

also wondering if any one has done the pep files in regular paper, or do we need cardstock to prevent the possible bowing...

i was thinking a thinner application on regular paper might work...

you get a way better price if you get them from a fiberglass supply store.

I haven't heard any good stories from people using regular paper.

@Robo: I think you should add about 1/4" to 1/2" to the deepth of the Arc Reactor Hole. There isn't enough play after fiberglassing. It doesn't reach the brace (WIth my fiberglassing, anyway, lol). I had to hold the chest to the brace with duct tape, but I'm going to add the extra to the chest so it wll hold it's self.

I finally got the back and chest fiberglassed enough to take off the supports. Here's some photos of the back, chest, collar plates and shoulder bell (all the pieces are in various stages).

Walmart sells 110 lbs. cardstock.

cod piece test fitting. I still need to trim around the waist area to accomodate the abs sections, then I'm going to start planning on how I'm going to set this up for restroom breaks. I was thinking about cutting it on the sides to completely come off (and have a hinge on where the pink is) or just cutting off where I have the green.

It would be more trouble than its worth and in the end your ironman will look soggy.
You can get a pack of cardstock fairly cheap.
I did robos jack bauer psycho mask in plain paper and it was difficult to keep the shape of the mask, I put the resin on gently only after lightly *and I mean LIGHTLY* misting it with spray paint about 20 times to seal the paper.
So I guess you could but I dont think its a good idea at all.

also, Thats crazy that your walmart still sells bondo. every one Ive been to said that they discontinued selling it.
Usually auto stores have it cheaper. I think I payed about 15-16 for a gallon can.

Anyone else having a devil of a time with the arms? Any tips from you guys who have tackled it?

MightyJohn, the chest and back pieces look awesome!

Thanks!

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

That is true, robo's armor looks great. This hands work for the other IM suits too.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

also it seems the bulkiness I was aiming for when I designed it was a success

Yea, the thing is very intimidating:eek This guy is gonna be Huge...as he should be!
Once again, great job on the files! I love it!

@ VersionUp: That COD piece looks great. Remember when you test fit, to compensate for fiberglass thickness and stiffness. It makes a difference. Like how the boots slip on when paper, but probably won't fit after fiberglassing (gonna need a heel hing or something).

Thanks Egon

well like i said i was able to find a can of resin for about 10 - my walmart has ALOT of stuff

@robo: any chance we could see a MK 5 or a Hulk Buster? lol jk

going to finnish my helm today (hopefully) using Cardboard and masking tape - cant seem to find my glue gun... am i going to run into probs with the masking tape using the resin on it?

cod is already 'glassed. Plus I made a dummy with the same dimension as my body, and I leave it on there when it's drying so I'm getting a good custom fit. I actually did a alot of modifying with the pieces to make it streamlined.
