Quick question Robo, can this boots elevate us or make us taller after resining and still look proportionate to the armor?

foot is uploaded and in the first post under the LEGS section

a few notes:
- i can't promise it'll be easy....lol....
- its symmetrical so the one file works for both left and right feet
- it's a 3 piece construction: 1 'shoe' and 2 sole pieces
- sole pieces will need holes cut in them in order to fill with resin....
- this one is not hinged.

and just for a bit of trivia the average downloads for all these files is somewhere between 400-500 per file......

I think thats how he intended the armor to be in the first place. besides, a 3 inch lift wont offshoot the armor scale that much.

are we gonna hafta fab up the forward panels above each boot thats missing on the calf pep?

Huge lifts are a part of the suit's design. Not only is RDJ a shorty, but the three-four (bare minimum) inches of additional height also give the suit better proportioned legs.

Make sure when you guys are building the boots to leave the bottom rough or unfinished for traction. I dont know how well the resin will be on a hardwood or tiled flooring. Safety first!!

Glueing a real rubber shoe sole under the boot might do the trick even better ;)

Yes, a lot of the suits I have seen look quite "compact", and not because of the wearers. I must admit that I think that very slender body types, especially in the hip area, might make any pep suit look good when the legs are not scaled too wide. A lot of legs out there look kind of too wide, not slim enoug.

@mightyJohn

going to pick up some joint compound as you mentioned that it works well for you and curious to know if this stuff will work - SHEETROCK Plus 3 Lightweight All-Purpose Joint Compound - 381466 at The Home Depot

or should i look for something else?

as for a resin substitute (should my cardboard backing attempt fail) is there anything i should look for? what stuff do you use? having a hard time finding anything on the home depot site.

Here is something smaller:
Phenopatch Spackling, White 1 Qt., All-Purpose Spackling Paste - 10224 at The Home Depot

I didn't see the fiberglass mat and fiberglass resin on the website (they sell Bondo Brand if you want to search the internet), but they are all in the 'Paint' section of Home Depot...including the spackling.

your a life saver ^_^ i can get the mat from Auto Zone but do they carry the resin for it as well you think?

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

I recently used wall joint on my pep iron man helmet to go along with this build. Seems to work okay. I dont know how ruff one could be in it...but it is easy to apply and work with. I was curious as to how it would work out on the rest of the armor. It should be noted that it seems to help if the paper is sealed first. I used some elmers glue and clear enamel to seal it before I applied the wall joint. It appears to help with the warping that the water based joint creates on the paper.I think I may try the hot glue method on the pepped armor and possibly add wall joint to smooth it out a bit.

The scale of this armor seems to be a perfect fit for me, being about 5 11 and a more lean 170lbs. Thought i would throw this out there for anyone who is curious of scale (i've been trying to keep up with this thread, but I work and go to school so its hard to find the time), so I am not sure if this has been covered).

While I was picking out primer the other day, I noticed spray on truck bed. Has anyone used this for an application like this? I'm tempted to try it out on the interior of some pieces to see if it stiffens up and stays durable.

@Egon, Never tested it, but it sounds like a good idea.

I was thinking of something like that to spray on the bottom of the boots for traction.

Robo, I've made a couple of very minor changes to your foot unfold and rearranged it to fit on US letter paper. OK if I post a link for it?

sure thing

yep they have somewhere around 3 inches of lift

i do have a piece for that, which I'll get out today, but some people may prefer to fab their own...

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

Cool. we have to resin the inside by 3 inches.

I first used Spray on liner for the same idea...doesn't work. About the same strength as paint:wacko. And its a terrible body filler because, it flakes when sanded.
It is very similar to Orange Peel (but different texture). It fills in holes and imperfections, but surprisingly, it's very soft.
But, it's great for the illusion of Cast Iron. If someone wants to make a Cast Iron-Iron Man...This is the stuff!
