Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - feet coming this weekend!

so far the feet are going to be in 2 pieces, the "shoe" part for your foot, and the sole...I did them separate so that the sole can be filled to the brim with resin so you can walk around in them safely.....

my question is.....do you guys want it hinged in the middle? or is one solid boot fine? i can do either....

I think that Hinged in the middle its the best idea... i think :S
care to show us a little preview of what you have?

@Azurial: I don't know about AquaResin (I think it has a longer set time) but, if you'd rather go to Home Depot...Just get the resin thats there. You might as well get something thats close...Cus' you will be doing ALOT of it :)

@MightyJohn:

When you made your helm, did you use anything like resin to make it sturdy or did the joint compound by itself work fine?

i only ask 'cuz i wanna try to keep costs down as much as i can as im on a MAJOR budget (trying to make armor for less than $50)

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - feet coming this weekend!

alrighty, here's a little peek......its still all one piece at the moment, still modeling the sole (the details at the front that are missing will be a part of the sole)

i reckon there's about 3 inches of lift in the heel in these babies....

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - 27/6 first post rewritten, RIGHT LEG in first p

It's looking great, Robo!
I'm currently fiberglassing the chest. I've been pretty much just fiberglassing stuff, so the pictures wouldn't be too interesting. I'll try to get the shoulder bell finished this week.

I'll try out some deeper reds on other pieces (taping off the mouth is a pain:lol). I saw on Sharkheads thread that someone poste about "wild Cherry" automotive paint. I'll keep an eye on that and see what comes of it.

Robo: could you re-post some pictures of how the chest, collar plates, brace and back look together? I want to make sure I'm doing it correct. Thanks!

You need to strengthen the armor first. Compound or bondo wouldn't hold up to the bending. I resin the outside, then fiberglass (Fiderglass Mat) the inside. Then it's ready for compound/bondo.

I don't know how to make a helmet under $50. Maybe if you did it with a friend and split the cost of the material? I'm about $200 into the whole suit ATM.

robo its great to see the feet are coming along. ive been checking in every day to see if you have made any progress. so far me and my friend have gotten quite far into the pepping of the suit. can anyone tell me how much these suits sell for if they're good quality? although i dont know if i'll have the heart to let it go when it comes to it. be nice to have an idea.

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - feet coming this weekend!

okie dokie! i found away to keep costs down. looking around on instructables some one had a (rather blocky looking) cardboard iron man armor, so im going to do a test peice and cover it with bondo, scince i have a tub laying around. wish me luck!

I'll get pics posted as soon as i can get my pep files printed.

If any one has a motorized/lighted/both method could you PM me with a quick tut?

I'm currently unfolding the foot.....at this stage its still the one piece design....which will work.....

i'll still do the hinged one but it needs some more fiddling for it to work....

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - feet coming this weekend!

as soon as you get the foot unfolded i will pep one quick and see how the fitment is and post a pic of that as well

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

foot is uploaded and in the first post under the LEGS section

a few notes:
- i can't promise it'll be easy....lol....
- its symmetrical so the one file works for both left and right feet
- it's a 3 piece construction: 1 'shoe' and 2 sole pieces
- sole pieces will need holes cut in them in order to fill with resin....
- this one is not hinged.

and just for a bit of trivia the average downloads for all these files is somewhere between 400-500 per file......

haha thank you robo - the hardest parts seem to be the little lips about a millimeter wide... fun ^_^ lol

EDIT: looks like a very uncomfurtable high heel shoe... remind me to buy gel pad

Re: robo3687's Iron Man 2 Pep Files - foot in first post-details last page

@mightyJohn

going to pick up some joint compound as you mentioned that it works well for you and curious to know if this stuff will work - SHEETROCK Plus 3 Lightweight All-Purpose Joint Compound - 381466 at The Home Depot

or should i look for something else?

as for a resin substitute (should my cardboard backing attempt fail) is there anything i should look for? what stuff do you use? having a hard time finding anything on the home depot site.

lol i've allowed for plenty of room for padding inside the shoe part....

Robo, I've made a couple of very minor changes to your foot unfold and rearranged it to fit on US letter paper. OK if I post a link for it?
