Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer

Something about the CG in the trailer makes me think of the monkeys in Jumanji for some reason.

No plans to see it until DVD.

Well, it's not like the original five were that internally consistent to begin with. :)

Yep.

In just the years alone.

1st film they land in 3976

2nd film 3955

TV show 3085 (yet Dr Zaius is there and they reference other Astonauts have been there.)

Forgive my ignorance (I loved POTA but I have forgotten some details) but so I am straight...

Franco is the Ricardo M. character, right? (In a loose way at least?)

Also...again forgive my ignorance...

Caeser is the son of Cornelius, right?

(Cornelius and Zira go back in time, they have Caeser, they then die, then Caeser starts the ape revolution. So basically, the only reason the apes took over was because Cornelius and Zira went back in time..the whole paradox thing and stuff.)

Am I right? Just want to make sure I have that right before seeiing the movie. I could Wiki it..but I am lazy.

Hmmmmm

I'm not so sure !

If this is a Prequel to the original Planet of the apes then this is pre Cornelius and Zira travelling back in time.

I'm sure and i may be mistaken that ceasar (cornelius and Ziras off spring) is named after the Lawgiver who first wrote down the sacred Scrolls (ape law) so my thinking is that this Caeser is the original Lawgiver that Apes worship ............... :wacko now im confused

I think the intent is a re-imagining of the beginning of the Planet of the Apes.

No Zira and Cornelius but Caesar is still the start of the revolution.

Conquest was always my favorite of the other four so I am thrilled they chose to start it here. Even Caesar in the original declares the "birth of the Planet of the Apes"

Remember all these were made when "sequel" was a dirty word and were all done on a nearly shoestring budget for something of this size back then.

Agreed.

I had always assumed that the end of the original POTA - aside from revealing [SPOILER ALERT] that we were on Earth the whole time - was meant to imply a nuclear war: "they blew it up!". I had always assumed that the apes' evolution was a result of radiation but I think I prefer the idea (in the new film) that smarter (and vengeful) apes are the result of animal experimentation.

Hopefully it will do well enough so we can get some broadway shows started of the full series.

Then technically this could really be counted as a third timeline where apes take over, which kinda makes you wonder as you have 3 timelines with the same events happen in different ways as to why apes would be able to take over in all three. Either way i hope it is good and now i need the blue ray set to get that unedited version of conquest.

I look forward to this movie. I really hate experimentation on animals, mistreatment, etc. I know it's necessary for the plot, but I wish that kind of stuff didn't happen in the real world.

I'm a huge POTA fan and I heard about this movie two years ago, they had the original title called "Caesar" then it changed to "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" and then to "Rise of the Apes" but I think all along it was to be called "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" which is it's final title because in an article I read two years ago they stated the POTA franchise was getting a reboot and "episode 1" was to start off with Caesar rising to power. I believe in that same article it was mentioned that they plan on making 3 or 4 films after this one but I can't remember the actual number of films to come (I need to find that article and post it here).

I'm a big POTA fan in fact I own a screen used Gorilla soldier costume from "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" complete with Shirt, vest, bandolier, pants, club, rifle, boots, ammo pouches and backpack. I've also identified the costume in a scene, the scene when the ape army is leaving ape city they are crossing the bridge and the camera has a shot of ape soldiers coming to the camera and the soldier with the club on his side is the ape costume I own as his bandolier matches up to mine with the same scuff marks.

If it's a reboot and they're planning on making a few more sequels then Im guessing that it will be in chronologica orderl, as opposed to the original series which started in the future and worked its way back in time which eventually lead to the rise of the apes as a side effect of a paradox.

If I had to guess, They'll probably loosely base the future sequels on the original series. They might even omit some of the weaker original series installments, and just take some of the best sequences from a few of the films and fuse them into one film.

I concur. I'm almost positive this is a re-imagining (reboot?) of the story told in the original five films. However...

If this is a Prequel to the original Planet of the apes then this is pre Cornelius and Zira travelling back in time.
...as I stated above, I don't think this is a prequel to the original films but a re-imagining/reboot of the franchise from a new perspective. In this version Caesar is the result of genetic experimentation, and is not the already advanced/evolved child of Zira and Cornelius.

If you recall, in Conquest for the Planet of the Apes Caesar chose his own name by flipping to a "random" page in a book of names and pointing to one (Armando calls him Caesar early in the film; clearly he is selecting the name he has already been given). The name Caesar must have come from Armando, because in Escape from the Planet of the Apes Zira and Cornelius name him Milo (after their deceased colleague).

I don't recall ever hearing the Lawgiver's name in any of the original five films. Caesar, being the first step in the apes' evolution, may have been the Lawgiver, but I don't think it was ever specifically stated.

I enjoyed that brush up in the above link. Very cool. I'm looking forward to this flick. Just saw it's currently at 84% on RT with critics! Not that I put much stock in RT or critics, but that's not a bad sign....I hope. :)
