Managed to track down one of these bad boys!

Borrowing off a friend, so need to take care of it.
Will take a pattern off it, make the necessary alterations to the pattern, and construct a new one from scratch which will then be beaten down and weathered.
Might scan the pattern and write up some instructions when it's done so others are able to make their own replicas

Thinking of using some 18oz canvas for this, does that seem about right for military bag replicas?

The biggest problem that you're going to have replicating it from scratch is that the British webbing is a different weave than standard canvas. On this particular bag there are two textures. the body of the bag is more of a standard canvas, but the reinforced webbing which runs around the perimeter of the bag is that unique British weave---and it's quite wide at a bit over 2". I'm not sure how you'll replicate that part. If you do manage to find a replacement for it, then I expect many will thank you.

Hey everyone! I know most people have had their wraps set on dharma, but I found this 100% Viscose scarf at Hobby Lobby that I believe would work amazingly well. It comes white and measure 18x77 inches. Excellent if you don't mind sewing together a few for the length. it runs about 6.00 to 7.00 USD minus the 40% you can take off with a coupon. Is very thin and it drapes amazingly well.

not a *bad* option. the only problem is that you will need to link several together to get the right length, and we only see one seam in the screen used costume...down at the leg on the lop end. One *may* be able to strategically hide two more seams on the shoulders, since there needs to be gathering there anyway.

It's a possibility.

My hunny has one of those toys that has the plastic extendable/retractable blade I was thinking of using that for now. It also makes noise. Lol

Sorry I am really new to this forum and I haven't made it thru the entire 52 pages of posts but I made it thru far enough that I saw some people who are able to 3D print Or cast pieces to make Rey's staff. Would any of those who are able to do this give me pricing for this? I know I do not possess this talent nor do I have the space to make it with other items like I have seen on other webpages. Thanks.

I should be able to run out at lunchtime on Monday and get Kristen's bag, then get to the post office on Tuesday. I have a feeling that the bag + postage will come close to $50 though. I'm not sure on postal costs, it depends greatly on the weight and the service, but I will have a good idea on Tuesday.

I'd order from Silverman's, but you don't know what condition the bag will be in or where it might have type stamped on it. Kradlum, if you see they have a good selection and are willing to do a bulk post to the U.S. with several bags like thewizard99 suggested, I'd be interested in one. I'd even be willing to receive them and do the re-shipping. Though I'm not sure this will save us money. It would depend on how many people want them. Or if you are willing to send them out individually, I'd pay the cost if I knew it was a good one. I just don't want to spend $50 and get a bag that has type all over it. I know this would be a lot of work for you, but I'm sure we'd all be super grateful.

I had to cut down not only the right side bit also the thickness of the entire pouch plus the height LOL. So basically I had to cut it all, whereas if I had been able to source the correct bag I would only have had to shorten the right side and move some straps.

It still looks OK... just took a lot more work. Mira Darkstar came over with hers (made from the correct bag) and I was able to use it as a size gauge.

kristenhenry70, if you could post the exact dimensions of the final bag, that would be fantastic! (Length across front, height and width of the side.) I know someone figured the dimensions based on the bag's relationship to the Alice clip, but it would be great to have them based on the actual bag.

Leather, Sports ( jersey, athletic ) mesh, backing looks like it might be rubber?.
Side attachment's don't look like all the others (to thin and squared off)
Cording is completely wrong, all others including screen shots are grey.
and another flashlight? (torch for the folks across the pond)

Airbrushed, doesn't look like the others (to clean and the wrong color)

Let me ask, and see if I can get any info before remaking them. A good friend works as a costume assistant for Star Wars at the Disney parks, and while she might not be able to tell me anything, she might be able to tell me something. :rolleyes

I also think these are very different from the screen pair. I don't think that mesh even exists on the original pair. Most of these types of replicas for display- not the traveling exhibitions-(and I'm fairly certain this info is correct) are not made from the same materials, fabric bolts, etc. If they can't source it from the same places, the fabrics were one-offs, or if it isn't cost effective to replicate, they'll usually do the exact same thing we're doing. Studying it and reproducing it. Only, they get paid for it and have access to much better resources. That info also comes from a Disney employee friend, so take it with a grain of salt because I can't verify the process.

I will ask her tonight and report back.

....and whew! I just made it through all 53 pages! All caught up. I suppose it helps that I have a crummy cold to start the new year and I'm glued to the couch with my lap top.

I just have to say, that I thought I was one of the few OCD type detail oriented people out there, but I have to say—I am genuinely impressed with the level of detail some of you take in crafting. Awesome. I am not alone at all. hah!

To those who have ordered it, do any of you wear a US size 8.5 or 9? My measurements are saying I should wear 38, which is a US size 7. That can't be right! I've sent Po-Zu an email, but was wondering if you all had any input.

What is the final length of your staff? It appears quite long?

It may seem a bit long due to those angles, but it is just a hair over 6 feet total length. I am 5'7" (same as Daisy Ridley! ) and we all sort of judged the length of the staff based on it's relationship to her.

the cool thing is that my staff is built on a wooden dowl rod, so I could cut it down if needed, and also it's split in two with a threaded rod so that it can be stowed.

I wear a US size 9 and ordered the 39. They fit perfectly...not to long or short and super comfy. They don't do half sizes, which is prolly why they were directing you to the 38. By the chart, I would technically wear a 39.5, but I didn't want to risk them being too large so I bumped down the half size to 39 and it worked perfectly.

I was about to post the link today but noticed you have done it. got a quote from a gent in england who can make it for about £75 ( printing everything there ) so say £100 for good measure.


EDIT - As for the strap, i had a look and it looks to be a WW2 British Bren Sling they have the correct look and attachments on the end as standard and are pretty long

I mention them before being completely caught up on the thread just because I saw them on sale at Kohl's today for $41.

They need modding, obviously, but not as much as some we've looked at. I'm still trying to decide where my sweet spot is between affordability and modding effort. Figured I'd post a heads-up in case these hit yours.

I think I might grab these at Kohl's anyway, while I waffle about the Po-Zu boots. They're So. Darn. Cute. even aside from being screen-accurate, but that's a hefty chunk of change...

Hopefully there will be progress to report soon. Glad to see I'm not the only one who jumped on this train after the movie! (Life has not had room for costuming lately, so I broke out my 16-year-old Jedi garb and called it a day...)

I just realized that my local library has a 3D printer and charges $0.10/ gram. Would anyone who has 3D printed pieces tell me how much their pieces weighed? I am just wondering if this might be a quicker and less expensive way to make my staff in time for expo. I do prefer the staff pieces to fit on a solid base pole.

First time poster on this thread, long time reader.
Hello everyone! I'm working on a Rey build and found a lovely fabric at Joann Fabrics for Rey's pants. I've used Simplicity 2061 as a base and now I'm stuck. I'm having difficulties trying to find how her pants are tucked under or if they are cuffed. Right now they go down to my feet and I've tried rolling them up and they don't look right. Any tips?

New forum member here, planning a Rey costume for my teen daughter and I to work on together. Previously I've done a Boba Fett for myself. Thanks for all the hard work you've all put into this, it will make it fairly easy to make the costume as accurate as we can or want to. Started reading this thread in november and just checked back, all I can say is wow, the costumes folks have done look great!
