Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

Quick shot of a finished staff kit (credit to Germain for the model)! Hopefully this will be helpful to those of you attempting to construct one from scratch!

Hey guys, I bought some of the 1.5 " bronze swivel clasps for the staff strap, and they came in a 15 pack. I'm going to throw them up in the junkyard for anyone who wanted them, but didn't want to buy the whole pack. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Oof! I missed a lot of posts! I've been working so much lately that I haven't had time to catch up (my costume is currently on hold). I doubt I'll have it for the premiere. :/

Thanks for the update to my artwork Division 6! I had been meaning to go back to update it (since I drew it before all the reference images came out). Now I can save myself the trouble. :p

Everyone's costumes are looking GREAT! And all the fabulous research! Well done everyone!

Looks great! If I could make one suggestion though it'd be with that piece in the second row from top, far right. The one with the fins on it. I might suggest redoing the model on that piece to add a rind att the bottom of the fins. it would make them much stronger and keep them aligned better. You could even bump the small ring from the end of the piece before it to the left and instead make that a part of the fin piece. I think it would make that part much more durable.

Just a thought! Great work. :thumbsup

Make sure to let me know... I'll be down for a set.

I may also have an extra enfield sling. I bought two, and I need to see if I can get by with one. If so, i can let the second go pretty cheap. I'll keep everyone posted!

I think the reason why we sliced it this way is we didn't want a fragile, overhanging ring printing at the very top of those "spires" (since the whole piece is printed with them sticking up in the air). Such a "floating" ring would require support or it would come out looking pretty crappy for the first mm or three. And since it's only point of attachment would be the very top of the fins, it would be prone to snapping off as well, I'd imagine.

This way it does not require support, which I believe was Germain's goal when he sliced the model into manageable pieces. The fins are a lot thicker than they seem-- probably 3-4mm thick, actually-- so they should not snap off too easily. My recommendation once you are assembling the staff would be to coat each portion of the wooden dowel/pvc pipe the parts are going to fit over in a thin layer of wood glue before sliding the piece overtop of it. That should ensure all the fins are glued down really well and won't have a risk of snapping off, since they'll be anchored along two of their three edges. :)

One thing I haven't seen, is what is everyone doing for the sling attachment to the staff? It looks like small leather cuffs with snaps that have a d-ring on them.

I got my clips as well - I ordered different ones that were a little closer, from Amazon in a 5 pack. They're in the image I posted a page or two back.

This was covered awhile back....is the below picture what you need? (this is not my picture, i think it's Division6 who posted it, I just pulled it from the post it was in covered several pages back)

Here's a basic on the belt.
transition in shape and size on ends are a bit of a guess since I haven't found any good clear pix.
I do know they go down to about 1/2" where they fold back and weave through it's self.

Length can be adjusted to your waist size.

I would suggest looking at your reference and also doing a paper pattern to get everything worked out and to scale.

Thank you for this! I am not really seeing anything about the metal buckles. What did everyone go with for that on the belt? I'm scoping out leather and findings for this and the cuff/bracer.

Hobby lobby sells sewology silver rect rings in 3/4 and 1 inch. Im interested in what leather options are out there to make the belt from.
