Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

parts update; today i got the pouch and the belt for the staff. the pouch is a german military ammo pouch from the sixties or seventies i guess. the belt unfortunately was only available in light beige, not dark beige. :( but better this than nothing!!) i can make it darker and looking older and more shabby later! ;)

even if it´s not an exact copy, it looks nevertheless cooler than expected:

Ran out of filament for a day which held up the printing. Here's more progress :)

So the kit prints pretty fast on my home printer... I think I might be able to produce a couple of kits a week for a lot cheaper if people don't mind doing all the clean-up etc themselves. More work on the buyer's end than clean resin casts or SLS prints, but a lot less money.

What are people using for the staff's shoulder strap?

I would totally be down for a clean-up-yourself kit! I like how these parts you're doing at home look... they're awesome!... I'm in! If you're going to start a list, put me on it!

****EDIT****

I'm planning to using a canvas M1 Garand rifle sling. The sling that she has looks like British webbing, probably about 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" wide, khaki in colour with some commerical latch clips on each end. I happen to work at an Army Surplus store, and we have Garand slings lying around, so i will likely use that as it's the right size and look... I'll just change out the hardware.

My Buddy helped me with the leather parts, such as the arm part, the belt and the straps on the staff. He did some great work!! Pics to the parts tomorrow.

I took a look at some M1 Garand slings, but they seem to be missing the thicker padded sections along the sides of the strap.

How about something like this? The color is a tad off but it has the correct stitching (the thicker padded portions running down either side of it's entire length) and the clips look fairly accurate as well?

Yes.. that sling looks good. Where is it from? Or are you going to offer it with the kit?

Look up Bren (light machine gun) slings, plenty on Amazon/the 'bay! I'm currently looking for more accurate buckle/sling clips. I'll post here if I find any!

---EDIT---

This is the closest I can find for the swivel clip. It's a tad inaccurate (joint screw tab is visible, no square hold on the back of the clasp) but it should work fine for all but the most anal-retentive of CRLs ;)

here are the promised pics to the leather parts my buddy made for me:

now it´s up to my daughter taking care of the shirt mods and the military bag!! and the shoes... and all the other stuff!!! :( oh my gosh, so many things to do and only four weeks to go......)

Yeah, the Bren and the Enfield straps are both identical, just the Bren is longer (as it's designed for am LMG instead of a rifle).

I'm not finding the Bren or Enfield in tan with a swivel clip on Amazon or eBay. Where did you find them? I'm barely 5'4" so I thought the Enfield would be better, but every one I'm finding has a bungee type end or is from WWII and has no clips at the end.

---EDIT---

I found Bren on Amazon and eBay. Never mind! The Enfield with clips is elusive to me so I may just got with Bren...

This looks great!! Happy to do clean up as well.

The 3 I bought have this type attachment on the ends.

The end needs to be cut and the "Lobster" swivel clips attached.

Ah okay, great! Thank you. I saw these and wasn't sure what's best. This is still my first official costume build where I'm sewing etc. This is all new!

So the PO couldn't find my PoZu boots on Tuesday which sent me into a full on panic. Not to mention at the other things that have gone wrong this week in my life!! But the good news is the guy called me Tuesday night and he found them. So I picked them up last night! They fit absolutely perfectly. I can post my measurements and what I ordered later if anyone still needs a reference point.

Okay - sorry to post in a row, but it has been a few hours...

This is what happens when you're procrastinating at work :)

claspStrapComparison copy2.jpg

Clasp: Found a closer lobster clasp - nearly identical. 1" and 1.5" available on Amazon (are we allowed to post links? I saw something someone said earlier that made it sound like no)

Slider bar: Haven't noticed anyone discussing this - it's to make the strap adjustable of course. It looks so silver but then it wouldn't match the clips. Does anyone know? I found silver on Amazon and bronze on Etsy

Strap: It looks very olive in some of the production and promo photos, but her boots also looked black. I adjusted the full body photo above so her boots were closer to the brown of mine (I'm wearing them now). This clearly makes the strap look tan again like in the mannequin from Celebration.

(Of course, none of this matters if I don't make or buy a staff!) Hah! Let me know your input on all that!

Sizing Po-Zu boots: My feet are usually 7-8.5 here in the US. They measured 249mm and 250mm so I thought a 39 at 259mm would be best. Po-Zu customer service agreed. I also agree, 39 works perfectly and is equivalent to a US 8. You can tighten the straps around the calf, so that makes them stay on even if they're a tad large. I definitely wouldn't want them to be any larger than they are.

Because of the megahigh prize for the po-zu boots we decided that this is a no go! We have a set of Brown boots that have to be the choice of the day now. Pics tomorrow.

I looked on Etsy and Amazon and wasn't able to find the exact slider buckle. I'll probably just 3D print it since it's such an easy design. Simpler than trying to track down one with the correct shape/color.

The slider buckle is silver; the swivel clips are bronze/brass.

Success! The first full set of parts is complete! I used a pair of 1" diameter, 3-ft long poplar dowels, joined via 1" ID, 16"-long PVC pipe to act as a coupler. The dowels are held in the coupling by a pair of screws.

My GF is at work, but here are some pics of the 6' staff with my 5'7" roommate. I just sort of threw the pieces onto the staff body so apologies if their placement isn't 100% screen-accurate!

I ordered my boots Nov 1st and received them in San Antonio Nov 15. They're quite comfortable, I've been wearing them a few days this week to break them in.
