Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

If she's in the US it may have been blocked by the government not wanting money to go out of country.
I had that problem when I was buying a ice axe from the UK.
My bank informed me about it being blocked.

PayPal does have a feature to use a credit card iirc.

Completed the staff for my girlfriend's costume this weekend. It measures a little over 6 ft.

I realize the color is rustier and lighter than the movie version, but I did not like the loss of detail as the coloring approached black.

Looks fantastic! This was with the Home Depot shopping list several pages back, right? I'm planning to tackle this in the coming week.

I think the paintup looks fantastic! Very well done. I may want to pick your brain for some assembly pointers once I get my items purchased at The Depot.

Ace job! :thumbsup

Thx for the comments!

Yes, that is the basic build I used, thx to kylegilbert for all that great info & write-up!

I did make some changes to it, some parts were added and I used a single piece of 3/4" pipe instead of 1/2" in separate sections. I also did not use any tape, plasti dip or foamboard. It is mostly plastic parts with a few pieces of wood. The strap attachment pieces are genuine leather and I used "sewology" strap hardware and D-rings sold by hobby lobby. I also included the piece on the strap to make the length adjustable.

One of the close up pictures of the staff shows that the original pole itself (before molding and casting) was made of wood.
You can see the wood grain texture.

Something to keep in mind if you can't find plastic or metal tubing in the correct diameter. ;)

OK... couple of questions on your build:

1. Did you need to drill through pieces in order to keep your base staff as one solid piece?
2. What parts specifically did you add to the shopping list shown on the instructables site?

I actually did an extensive search at home depot looking at broom sticks, poles, wooden dowels, curtain rods, metal conduit, etc. In the end i could not come up with anything better than PVC pipe to use. I did find that the 1/2" seemed just too flimsy, so i upped it to 3/4". They did have some nice wood dowels in assorted sizes, which would have been good, but they only came in 4 ft lengths.

Yes, i had to drill or bore out every piece to go over the pipe. It was a lengthy process of cutting, drilling, grinding and dry fitting pieces. I will try to come up with a list of other parts i used, but a couple of things just came from the garage junk parts pile.

I also had one person comment on my Instructables build that they made the plastic conduit rigid by adding a wooden dowel inside the conduit. Just another option.

that's definitely an option. I did find wood dowels that would slide inside the 3/4" PVC at home depot. But in the end I skipped it because I didn't think it added very much rigidity to it. The 3/4" is pretty good on its own, but if you go with 1/2" you may really want to try something like that to firm it up.

It's a balance between size, weight and rigidity.
Steel rod inside would make it far too heavy. You would be better off just using 1/2" metal conduit for it like:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Allied-Tube-Conduit-1-2-in-EMT-Conduit-101543/100400405

but even that prob weighs too much for most women to carry around with comfort.
A 6 ft section of round aluminum tubing would likely be the best option, but it's not readily available at most home depot or lowes stores, so it may be hard to come by and it could get expensive.

Could also try aluminum or steel rod inside.

You also need to consider the weight afterward. If you use PVC pipe, the best way to fill it to give it more structure and no weight is use expanding foam... seal off one end and then fill halfway with expanding foam. It will expand and fill the pipe and mushroom out the top when done... trim off the mushroom and the pipe will have an internal support with no extra weight and be almost as strong as steel. Since you'll probably be carrying this around with you while in costume, the less weight the better!

You can have a thinner rod and use washers as spacers.
I think if you have it break down into smaller transportable pieces you want the join areas to be the strongest.

I put a threaded steel rod inside my vac formed Moria Orc sword for stability and it's not that heavy at 4'.

Hello, everyone!
I'm new here and I'm really happy with all you have shared.
I'm from Brazil, so please don't mind my poor English.

I just started my cosplay by the inner tunic.

Some details I noticed:

It has different sides and it fits loose by the arm.

Here is what I made so far:

Now I need to hard wash to 'damage' it and then to make it 'dirty".
